Hi! So, years ago and maybe more recently, there were a lot of complaints around the web and here (http://www.popville.com/2011/07/thurs-afternoon-rental-option-columbia-heights-7/ & http://www.popville.com/2011/02/tues-afternoon-rental-option-columbia-heights-6/) about bed bugs at Tivoli Gardens in north Columbia Heights.
There was a “Tivoli Gardens Update in the forums in 2012 (http://www.popville.com/forums/topic/status-of-tivoli-gardens/) and I want to reboot the conversation.
I’m thinking about renting one of the newly renovated units in the Otis building and curious if the bugs are still a problem. Thoughts? About the bugs or about the property in general. I’m really on the fence.
We have had multiple issues in my condo conversion, mostly related to plumbing. The builder has sent us on wild goose chases claiming the problems to be due to xyz and refusing to fix them when in fact they were often due to improper installations. I recently appear to have a leak in my shower which, after some failed attempts at fixing, turns out to be a bigger issue than I originally thought and might require the entire shower to be pulled out and redone. and which is going to cost plenty. Prior to this the issues were less expensive to fix, so we just handled them on our own, but given the cost associated with this issue and the inconvenience (not being able to use a shower to shower!) I am going to pursue filing a structural warranty claim. Does anyone have any insights into how I might do so, and tips? Building was registered as an LLC, but builder does appear to have filed a letter with the city for 10% of conversion costs (not sure if the letter is still valid or with DCRA, but building is still under structural warranty period).
My roommate and I have shared an English Basement in Petworth for over a year now. However, our apartment recently flooded due to a drainage problem. It cost almost $3000 to clean and repair and now our landlords are trying to charge us the costs of the damage.
They are claiming that it stemmed from flushing tampons (which I seriously doubt for many reasons). And citing the abnormal usage part of our lease to justify this charge.
What do you think? Is the law on our side on this one? What steps can we take to protect ourselves?
Guess what? I get to be patient zero with the new DC regulations for the R-4 zoning laws, new pop up rules, and solar rights.
I’m scared…. Very Scared. I don’t want to ruin the hard work of everybody who came before me.
How can I get a reputable shadow study (DCRA said I can create one in google sketch up or similar)?? I have a solar study from one of the companies who bid on the install. The company doing the install is having trouble completing a solar study. One of the first companies said it will decrease the productivity of the system by at least 30%.
Who can help me protect the solar system? Is there anybody I can contact who was involved with the solar rights issue / wants to be involved with this new law in practice?
I have this enormous piece of IKEA furniture I need to move from one side of my bedroom to another side. All the movers I call have a two hour minimum and are at least $250 – 300, even just for one piece.
Any recommendations on a company or people I can pay for just 30 minutes to an hour to help me move this thing. I am looking to spend under $100.
It literally needs to go like 10 feet.
…I know this might be a futile effort, but just hoping that the good of the internet can help keep their eyes peeled.
I left my bike locked in front of my office (M st Between 16 & 17) last night because I left my bike lights at home and I didn’t want to ride home in the dark. This AM my good ol’ faithful was missing — the Ulock had been cut by a person with superpowers or some nefarious device. Perhaps it was poofed like the 3% of the earth’s population on HBO’s The Leftovers. But I’m just not willing to accept that.
This. The bike that got me through years of art school, the bike that got me from downtown to my home in midtown one-hundred-million times, the bike that took me from Georgia to North Carolina on the dirty, shittily paved roads of the southern stretches of 95. The brakes are loose and the gears are a little weird by now, but hell, I’m so pathetically in love with the thing I’d even buy it back. “Just shut up and take my money,” I’ll say.
I’m sorry I always talked about how I didn’t like your sporty appearance because I do. I’m sorry for that one time that I rode you around the coastal highways too much and you got rust from the salty air. I’m sorry I left you behind that weekend and cheated on you with another bike, but mostly I’m just sorry that your gone. Please come back.
PS. I love you.
The bike is a Specialized green and white “Vita” hybrid, 27″ spoke wheels, thumb shift, quick release, gel seat for anyone who cares to help! I would GREATLY appreciate it.
