DC Jail Open House

The DC Jail will be having an Open House on Saturday April 23rd from 10a-4pm. This includes tours of the facility. You can find details on website. Not sure if they’ve had one previously but seems like a unique opportunity.

The DC Jail

Does anyone know what is the future of the jail? Reservation 13 development starts in one year in the current employee parking lot. CCA, which runs the women/juvy jail, contract expires in 18 months. So – will CCA absorb the men’s jail and build a new facility elsewhere? Or will DC take on the women/juvy inmates? Either way – a new jail needs to be built somewhere but there seems to be no talk of it.

Marijuana — changes in DRUG TESTING for DC Government employees?

Will the DC Gov’t relax their drug testing policies in light of the decriminalization of cannabis in DC? I’m not gonna lie — as a DC employee I hope we will be able to use marjijuana occasionally without it affecting our random testing. Anyone know if there are any changes in the pipeline?

Gov't funded agency not paying its employees for years

Dear Popville:

A family member was working for a non-profit organization that is funded by both federal and local government. He worked there for many years and has now significantly reduced his hours because the place is so mismanaged that the haven’t paid him (and several other employees) in years. Luckily, this isn’t his only source of income but for others they have had to find other jobs. They keep giving him the run around saying they have money (grants), they don’t have money, etc etc and he hasn’t seen a dime despite his constant follow ups. He is no longer going but would like to go after the money that’s owed to him. Any suggestions or advice as to how best to handle this would be helpful. Thanks, Popville!
