Granite for Front Yard

Does anyone know where you can buy granite stones that matches the front retaining walls of so many DC row homes. I’ve been looking around but am coming up blank!

Farm for produce

When I lived in CA, local farmers would enlist the help of “volunteers” who would help them with gathering crops and other farm chores in exchange for some of the produce. It was a wonderful mutually beneficial relationship. I was wondering if the DMV area has anything like this.

Spring is coming – not too late to get local organic veggie seedlings!

Hi fellow gardeners,

This will likely be our last post of the 2014 growing season – we want to thank our Petworth neighbors for their outpouring of support for our organic veggie seedling business we launched earlier this year – http://www.workingoverthyme.com. As many of you know we sold out of pre-order pretty quickly (because of you Petworth!!), but I’m happy to announce that (due to great germination rates and over ambitious planting) you can still get your hands on pretty much anything we are growing. If you are interested in any of our early Spring crops (Cauliflower, Brussels Sprouts, Cabbage, Leeks) you can pick them up as early as this weekend; the rest of our warmer weather seedlings will be ready later next month. Email [email protected] with any questions.

Seedlings are available for pre-order now. Just select the seedlings you would like, and when they are ready (check the detail under each item and you can see when we expect to have the seedlings available for pickup) we will contact you with pickup information. At pickup, all seedlings will be potted up to 3.5″ plastic pots and already hardened off so they will be ready to go in your garden at your convenience. Seedlings can be picked up in Petworth or U Street.

We’ve got a great selection for you including some fantastic heirloom tomato seeds and some hard-to-find veggies such as artichokes, husk cherries, and pepperoncinis. We have had great success in our gardens the past few years and are excited to share the secret of our success (strong, healthy seedlings transplanted at the right time) with you.

Working over thyme so you don’t have to,

Homegrown Organic Veggie Seedlings From our Rowhouse to Yours

Hi Petworth Neighbors,

We are two Petworth residents and for the past several years we have been expanding our own urban gardening adventures, including growing all of our own veggies from seeds. What started out as just a few dozen seedlings in Ross’ attic five years ago has turned into quite the operation (now taking over the basement of Leah’s rowhouse.)

This year we are very excited to offer our organic, home-grown seedlings straight from our rowhouse to yours.

So check out our site – http://www.workingoverthyme.com – and let us know what you think. Only limited quantities of each seedling are available so order now to ensure you get what you want.

Working over thyme so you can have a successful gardening season.

Wangari Garden Fall Fest – Call for Volunteers and Local Businesses

Wangari Gardens is a local community garden dedicated to preserving green space for local community members to use and enjoy, for growing healthy food, learning more about gardening, or to just use the green space for relaxation. We’re hosting a Community Fall Festival on Saturday, October 19th from 11 AM to 6 PM (https://www.facebook.com/events/521615514587276/) We plan to have games, food, music, and fall fun for everyone and the entire event is completely open to the public. We’re also inviting local businesses and groups in the area to also come, either just to attend and enjoy, or to show off their stuff – be it food, art, live music, fitness, pumpkin carving skills, or whatever!

We’d love for you to come out and participate in this event for the community, and also continue to promote your business and who you guys are! If you know of others in the community who might like to come or volunteer, send them our way!
