GW Master’s student seeks individuals who have experienced cancer to participate in interviews and focus groups. The purpose of this project is to learn more about the experiences and needs of people who have had cancer in our area. Sharing these experiences could help shape future supportive programming.
If you choose to participate, the interview or focus group will last for approximately one hour and will take place in a public place. Everything you choose to share will be kept confidential. You must be 18 years of age or older to participate.
This research is being conducted by Beth Moretzsky under the direction of Richard Grinker, PhD, Professor, Department of Anthropology, George Washington University, in partnership with the DC Cancer Action Partnership. If you are interested in participating or have any questions, please contact Beth at [email protected].
This past May, POP posted about my friends cancer fundraiser dance party at Flash.
It was the second event our close friends put together in an effort to raise awareness about the rare cancer she discovered last September. The fundraisers were also an effort to help her with her mounting medical bills.
Watching her appearance transform with her chemo and radiation I was inspired to do a photo shoot of her. Here is a link to view part of the shoot. http://violettamarkelou.com/fashion/
The images have captivated and inspired many so it got me to thinking that perhaps others going through a similar experience may want portrait of themselves like this.
So they can remember this time as not one of being sick but of transformation. Transformation can be beautiful.
Going one step further, I created a t-shirt campaign to raise money for Tara.
You can view that here :
If you are interested or anyone you many know is interested in purchasing this limited edition t-shirt to help us raise money for Tara, please pass along the links.
Tara is like the Washington monument practically. She is a really special person in DC. Her strength through this entire process of detection and treatment have inspired many. We want to give that love and inspiration back to her and help her get back healthy and happy.
Many thanks in advance for your support.
