Weekend Beach or Bay Rental?

Any advice on finding a rental house for a long weekend Aug 10th on the Eastern Shore? I know most rentals are weekly. Any advice is appreciated!

Did someone lose an olive and gray Timbuk2 bag on Friday?

Found on 13th Street, just south of Florida in the late afternoon.  Email PoP for my email address if it is yours–you’ll need to describe the contents to verify.

STEAD PARK — Need Your Input

Stead Park needs your input by Sunday:

Have you noticed the Stead (P street btw 17th & 16th) playground has been getting very popular/crowded?
Have you wished the huge playing field was more usable on a daily basis for you and your kids?

Have you heard about the proposed upgrades for which the community has been working on getting funding:

(Great amenities include:  splashpark for kids, jogging/walking track, stage for concerts/films, shade-trees/benches, puddle-proof astroturf…)

Well, good news — we got the full $1.6 million in funding.
BAD NEWS: it’s not until FY2015 — not till nex t October.

We have started asking the Council and the Mayor to help us start the project this coming fall (FY2014).

We’d like to compile notes of support from YOU – the parents/kids who want to use the park/field the most.

Kari Cunningham, an amazing neighborhood mom, will be testifying with us on Monday at noon.  You are welcome to join us.  But, your written notes of support will also be very helpful.

Please submit them to us by Sunday — either HERE or by email to:  [email protected]

Stead Park Supporters Push for Faster Upgrade Timeline

This Monday, April 29, supporters of the Stead Park upgrade will testify before the DC Council Committee on Workforce and Community Affairs in support of an advanced timeframe for park improvements.
As things stand with the current proposal, funding for these upgrades will not come until f iscal year 2015 and the earliest that any construction will begin is fall 2014.
As a member of Friends of Stead Park (FOSP) and a commissioner of ANC 2B, Kishan Putta is organizing the testimony following the securement of $1.6 million in funding for the project from the Council and the DC Department of Parks and Recreation (DCDPR).
This action from FOSP comes on the heels of their having spoken with Mayor Vincent Gray at the public Ward 2 Budget Town Hall. It was at this Town Hall that the mayor expressed an interest in speeding up the timeframe of the upgrades to the park after hearing of both the community’s excitement for the upgrades and the community funding that will go with city funding.
FOSP was bolstered by the mayor’s reaction and, according to Putta,”The April 29 meeting will be an opportunity for members of the community to speak before the committee about why the timeframe for the Stead Park upgrades should be advanced.
Upgrade Plans
The upgrade plans for Stead Park include shade trees and benches along the perimeter of the playing field, a jogging/walking track, a performance stage, a miniature water park for children, and maintenance of the playing field that will continue to accommodate two simultaneous games.
Members of the community agreed upon these plans after two years of discussion and consensus building, which included a series of community meetings with the FOSP Board of Directors. The new plans are designed to make the park more usable and better suited for the changing community.
Anyone interested in supporting an advanced timeframe for park improvements may send short letters of support kishan.putta[AT]dupontcirclean before this Sunday, April 28. Community members are also invited to join the hearing at 10 am on Monday, April 29, before the Committee on Workforce and Community Affairs at the Wilson Building, Room 412.

Pedestrian struck near Farragut North

Around 10:20am I witnessed a cab strike a pedestrian crossing the street near Farragut North.  The cab pulled over after the accident and the driver was very distraught. The struck woman was lying face-down and did not appear to be moving, at least during the time I was in the area, about 3 minutes (I was in an Uber car).
There were two people tending to the woman immediately afterward, and a number of other witnesses/passerby.  Still – is this something I should call into the police about?  I do have a photo but I don’t think it will be useful.
Also: does anyone happen to know what happened to the woman?

Where to donate a film camera? (Nikon N70)

I have a Nikon N70 (film SLR) that needs a good home.  Are there any DC places (art schools, youth development programs, etc?) that would benefit from a such a camera?  Thanks in advance for your suggestions.

Places to practice driving

My partner has a driver’s license, but hasn’t driven in a few years. Before she gets back on the road with real traffic to contend with, we’d like to do some practice driving in fairly safe areas (e.g., empty parking lots, etc.). We could go out to the suburbs, but are there any places in the city that might be a bit closer? We’re in SW DC.
