Hello, I live on the 1400 block of harvard and was wondering if anyone in MPD or the fire department was aware of the problems that parking congestion on Harvard is creating for emergency vehicles?
On May 9th I saw an ambulance coming from Adams Morgan that couldn’t get through on Harvard due to double parking on the 1500 block. On May 11th, I saw a near traffic accident as someone veered from a parking spot on the south side of the street to a spot on the north side. on May 12th, an ambulance had trouble picking up a medical emergency at All Souls Church due to no legal or illegal spaces near the building. On May 27,th a fire engine was unable to turn right onto Harvard because someone was illegally parked at the corner of Harvard and 15th Street NW
The reson I’m asking is that a developer is seeking to build an 8 unit apartment building on Marvard Street, NW and they are asking the board of zoning to waive the parking requirements to have parking for their building. We submitted over 70 signatures and 10 letters of opposition today, but apparently the planning department is planning on supporting this application.
It is my feeling that worsening the parking problem on Harvard street will effectively cut off access to local hospitals for residents in Adams Morgan, Mount Pleasant, and Columbia Heights, and will make it impossible for the fire trucks in Adams Morgan to help out at fires east of 16th street. Irving Street (the other eastbound thoroughfare) is effectively useless to EMS vehicles due to the traffic congestion caused by the DC USA. Fire officials from the Lanier Street station
Approving this parking variance would open the door to approval of other parking variance on the street (there are three more condo conversions -from single family homes in progress right now), and therefore in the long-term would create a very real public safety issue for this neighborhood.
There is a hearing on Tuesday June 4th the the DC Board of Zoning. If you would like to express your concern, please refer to application #18563 / MCSKA, LLC. The hearing will begin at 9:30 a.m. at 441 4th Street N.W., Washington, DC 20001 in Room 220 South.

This is my second summer in my house. The previous owner was very much a gardner, so I’ve been lucky to have a ton of perennials return in the garden. My question is, does anyone know what kind of plant (or weed) this is? Last summer, multiple came up and grew 2-3 feet tall. I wasn’t sure, so I pulled them out by the root. This year, it looks like I have 3 more. If it’s a weed, I should probably pull it, right?
I have a senior dog with Canine Cognitive Dysfunction – he barks and paces when he’s nervous or confused. Normally all it takes is a person telling him to lie down to calm his nerves… He is much more relaxed when there is someone in the room with him. Obviously, I can’t do this when I’m at work and though I have amazing neighbors – this behavior is starting to wear on them.
I’d send him to Dog-ma or some other doggie day care but he really has no interest in other dogs or toys (even when he was younger) – all he wants is company with him while he sleeps. A mid-day dog walker wouldn’t solve the problem.
Anyone know of a place that does senior doggie daycare? Ideally I’d want him in a living room type environment – maybe someone’s home, just hanging out while I’m at work. Convenient to the Capitol Hill/H Street area would be wonderful….
Sandy took out a century old curved glass window last night. We’d appreciate suggestions on finding someone to repair it. We do not want a replacement window, we want to fix what is there. Most places don’t want to deal with curved glass. I am not sure I blame them, but that is what we have.
Have you seen a Black Kona Africa bike with basket stolen from Kenyon Street garage bet Georgia and Warder?
Last night I put my bike in my garage around 7pm. From my kitchen, I noticed the door to the garage was open around 9pm. Sometimes I inadvertently push the automatic door button reopening it. My car was there and, I thought, the bike as well. This morning, I opened the garage to see the bike was gone. The front basket is slightly dented. I’ve never seen anyone in the DC area with my bike which I bought up in Boston in 2008. It’s got one speed. There are lights in the front and back (which I just put a new battery into yesterday). If you see it, spot someone on it, see it for sale, please let me know. I’ve filed a police report, but if you have any other ideas, I’m all ears.Thanks. 323.899.2916.
The picture is of the front of the bike before the basket got dented.
