I took my dog to the basic obedience classes at the Washington Animal Rescue League (www.warl.org). The price was ~$150 for six weeks. I also met with a private trainer at the Washington Humane Society (www.washhumane.org) for a specific behavior problem, which was more expensive, ~ $150 for one session, but it was actually really helpful. I think that trainer left, but they may still offer regular obedience classes.
I’m not sure of the price, but I’ve seen training classes going on at Petco and PetSmart stores when I’ve shopped there.
Since a lot of basic obedience is essentially training you to get (and keep) your dog’s attention, it may help indirectly with the door barking / cat problem. Once my dog figured out that she got treats for coming to me (or going to her bed) and sitting nicely, that quickly became more rewarding than chasing the cat. Good luck!
