Our beloved dog Jack was spooked by a loud noise last night and escaped from the corner of Euclid and 14th Street Northwest. If anyone sees him, please contact me ([email protected]) or Alan Cullison (202-374-4030). He will likely come to you if you call him.
Jack is a small, brindle pit-mix, about 3 years old. He is microchipped and was last seen wearing a black collar. He’s very friendly with both dogs and people, but may become intimidated by crowds of either.
Please let us know if you see him–a little boy is very much hoping for his safe return.
Hi. Wrhave been living in Petworth for 10 years and we’re extremely excited about a lot of the positive changes we have seen and continue to see in our community. So much so, we are seriously considering opening a new business – Doggie Spa/ Daycare business for the dog owners in the Petworth area. Services provided at K-9 Condo would include doggie DIY (do-it-yourself) bathing stations, day and overnight quality care while pet owners are at work or away for travel, and dog walking services.
> While this seems like a great idea to my partner and I, we were wondering what the broader Petworth Community thinks and whether or not they would embrace and support such a business?

We found a wallet with just an ID and SmartTrip card in our front yard this morning near 14th and Randolph. The ID is for Alvaro Quinones Cortes. Please contact me if you can help find the owner. We’ll turn it over to the 4D police soon.
I live in Eckington and it seems overnight parking signage has changed. The zoned parking changed slightly (it was M-F until 8pm, now M-Sat until midnight), but the kicker was the addition of ‘no parking here to corner’ signs. It’s a one way street, and up until now we could park closer to the corner. I got a parking ticket, and ever since then I have seen the parking enforcement just waiting for more residents to do the same thing. Is there any policy from DDOT on notifying residents when parking rules change on your street, or am I SOL for not checking the sign on the street that I park on daily? Obviously, DDOT, DMV, and 311 were less than helpful in answering my question.
Hello folks! This post will come as no surprise to those of you who have been living on Clifton St NW since Cardozo reopened, but I am really getting very upset about their daily ritual of shouting songs and chants at the top of their lungs each and every morning. I frequently work late nights and really long shifts and it is impossible to sleep through the racket across the street. Does anyone else have this problem? Has anyone been in touch with the school or could anyone recommend a person whom I should contact?
Thanks very much!
Hey all —
My bike was stolen from my locked gate/porch at my apartment in 16th st heights between the evening of 9/25 – morning of 9/26. Such a bummer. It’s pretty distinctive looking so I’m hoping it turns up on Craigslist or someone is able to spot it around town!
49cm 2010 orange Fuji classic track bike set up as a single speed with front and rear brakes. A fair amount of stickers on the frame covering up the logo. Nitto riser handlebars with blue Oury grips. Has a Giant quick release front wheel. White saddle. Attached are two photos. One is my bike (but with an older saddle and fewer stickers). The other is a stock photo of the bike model.
If you see it, give me a call at 617-584-6233 or e-mail me at [email protected]
Thank you so much!!
I was surprised to see that the house at 1331 Park Road is beginning construction on a driveway which takes at least one of the all important neighborhood street parking spaces. I’ve written our ANC 1A chair Kent Boese and Council member Brianne Nadeau about intervening before it’s not too late.
I encourage others to do so as well since turning a yard into a parking lot at the expense of shared public space is a terrible president to set.
The curb cut itself is next to 3317 Holmead Place, an existing driveway into a parking lot.
I live just a half block from 14th and Kennedy, and am delighted by the addition of this Farmers’ Market to our neighborhood. Yesterday I was surprised to have a Farmers’ Market representative knock on our door asking for signatures in support of the new Farmers’ Market–apparently there have been complaints (I do not know the reason) from neighbors, including a call to Muriel Bowser. The Market has minimal impact on neighborhood parking, the street closure is easy to navigate around on Saturday mornings, and as far as I can tell the Market itself generates nothing but positives (family-friendly pedestrian traffic, an incredibly convenient source for fresh produce, an opportunity to meet neighbors, etc.). I do not subscribe to any neighborhood blogs or forums–does anyone know the source and/or reason for complaints about this new Farmers’ Market? And beyond signing a petition (and buying things from the vendors) is there any way to demonstrate support for the Market?
..and it is driving me crazy!
They don’t steal anything – I run outside ( if awake ) and there is no one there, of course.
Last night – you won’t believe – I heard a key open / then close the lock to my iron gate at the front door – then no one came in. Yes I have roommates, but they were already in bed at 830. I asked them this morning. it was exactly at midnight. I know it is them. I think they just want me to submit to their presence – and that they can do whatever they want – as they apparently have my house key. I know I sound crazy, but no mental problem, no drugs, no drink.
Any one else having this trouble near 12/U?
Large orange tabby with a white tip tail. Looks like she’s had a litter, front claws have been de-clawed. Super big love bug. Found on the 300 block of Allison St. Was also said to have been seen by neighbors in the alley between Allison and Webster as well.
Fairly certain she isn’t a free roaming cat based on the fact that she didn’t seem comfortable outside. She really wanted to come into my house, then jumped into a friends car and then when I picked her up she burrowed her face into my armpit and stayed that way until I brought her inside.
I have 2 cats and a kiddo at home and can’t keep her for long. Very hopeful I can find her people.

Hi! This morning at 10th St NW and Randolph St NW some children were trying to capture a dog. I asked it if it was theirs and they said no, I told them I would get her to the shelter. I was able to coax the dog over and scoop her up. She came home with me briefly, but unfortunately as I have a cat, a no dogs allowed apartment, and as I was unable to care for the dog she had to be brought somewhere else. I had to bring her to the Humane Society. If anyone knows of anyone missing a small dog in Petworth she is at the Humane Society on New York Ave. She is very sweet, but was in rough shape and quite scared given the situation. She had no collar or identification tags. Below are images. Feel free to contact me for more details.
She is a small dog under 15 lbs is my guess, white curly haired.
My cat Max ran out of my house at around 5:30 pm last night. He’s black, neutered and thrilled to be outside so you may see him relaxing in your yard or trying to get into your house. If you see him please call Kim at 202-725-5866.
I saw Pepco crews who appeared to be burying power lines on 9th and Varnum this morning. I heard something about burying cables last spring but didn’t know what the outcome would be. Any idea if this is what they were actually doing? Will this result in utility polls coming down? That would be fantastic if we can make it happen!
Cheers from the neighborhood.
Did anyone else get a letter from the Anthony Bowen YMCA saying that they are tacking on another $36 ($39 for families) to the December billing.
For programs and services.
I get that it all goes to help people, but I can’t help but think that this was handled poorly. I mean, if I wanted to give an extra $36, I would do that. I already give to some other charities, and those are of my choice.
It’s not a huge deal, financially, I just think it’s bizarre to force it upon people. If they want to raise their rates, fine, announce that and let the market dictate.
