Workers Comp Policy for Nanny

Hi POPville,

For those that have a nanny, do you carry workers comp insurance for them? If yes, which carriers do you use? We are having trouble finding an insurance (local or nation-wide) that will provide the coverage in DC.

Sweet Kitty Found

I wanted to see if anyone has noticed this super friendly black and white kitty wandering around 6th and I NE recently. I know there are a lot of alley cats around, but she definitely seems like she had a home. This is the first week we have seen her in the neighborhood, and she is extremely friendly.

She hangs around 6th and I NE. No collar.

My neighbors and I are fearful that she was abandoned. It would be great to reunite her or find her a new home before the freeze. I would definitely scoop her up, but my husband is allergic to cats and my dog is a little too aggressive toward cats on the street.

Cat ISO Warm Loving Home!

Dear Popville,

I know this is a long shot – there are so many great felines in need of a loving home out there! But I have to try in hopes someone may be looking for a great new best friend. There is a colony of feral cats outside my work building who we (and other businesses) feed regularly. The whole colony has gone through trap-neuter-release (they all have clipped ears). One cat, however, is not feral in the least. I’ve named him Buddy Cat (I’m pretty sure it’s a boy). He’s wonderfully affectionate, loves being petted, comes when called, and is great with all of the other cats (he’s never aggressive and head butts them all affectionately). On chilly days I sit on the ground with him and he sits in my lap and purrs and kneads. This cat needs to get off the streets and into a loving warm home where he doesn’t have to beg for food!

I already have two cats and a dog in a rented home (and I’m allergic to cats!), so there’s no room at my inn for Buddy Cat. But as the weather starts to change, I hate to think of another cold winter where he’s out in the street fending for himself – he needs a warm lap to curl up in, as he keeps proving each day in my own lap. Please let me know if you or anyone you know would like to make a forever friend out of him(/her?)! I don’t know where else to look for a home for him, and have been asking around with friends without luck. Please help, Popville!

Liam, A Dog-Like Cat In Need of New Home

Looking for a new home for Liam, a 10-year old cat with a dog-like personality. He’s been our family cat since he was a kitten. He loves to cuddle, play and generally be around people. We’ve recently discovered our youngest is allergic so we’re looking for a family or person looking for the companionship a friendly pet can bring. He’s in good health with all shots, neutered, and recently checked out by the vet (City Paws on 14th).

repairing an iron candlestick

I’m looking for someone who can reattach a broken piece of an iron antique candlestick.  The break was clean, but is one of the parts that holds a candle so would need to be secure.   I assume soldering woud be the best method.   Thanks.
