Has anyone had any experiences – good or bad – with having slides scanned locally? My dad has hundreds of old slides of random family events and trips spanning about 20 years. I’d like to get at least some of them digitized in time for a family gathering later this month, so I don’t have time to send them out to a web-based service. I have a car so getting to non-Metro-friendly locations is not an issue. Thanks!
I am looking to take a one-day class in Adobe InDesign (intro level) between July 2 and July 21. I’ve been looking for one day classes in DC, but they all seem to be two days, or not available during that time frame. Does anyone know of any places, or perhaps individual instructors, that I might have overlooked? Already tried Softek, Ledet, etc., but no luck on a simple one day intro class before the 21st. Would love to hear your advice!
The house next door is a rental (has been for atleast 4 years) and has issues that are impacting our house. We have tried contacting the owner but she is unresponsive to our request to make the repairs. Additionally, I just looked the house up and she is getting the homestead credit. What recourse do we have to get her to make the repairs? Our next step is a certified letter.
I am an architect/builder who works from home in Logan. I am seeking a small studio space in Logan/Shaw or nearby to occasionally use for client meetings and to store some work material.
I would not be spending nights, and would only use the space for a few hours at a time and probably only a couple days per week.
A direct entrance to the sidewalk (for instance a bsmt area) would be ideal, but not essential. The space does not need to be fancy, and in fact something needing a little TLC is actually desirable. Even a garage space would possibly work.
I am hoping to find a space that someone is not currently utilizing or willing to share. I’m on a tight budget, and ideally would be interested in a quid-pro-quo arrangement, tho I am willing to pay for the ideal space.
How do I Delete Apps from my iPod Touch?
Is anyone a member at the National Building Museum?
Saw this great event posted and would love to find some free/discounted tickets:
Many thanks in advance,
I know this is a long (long, long, long) shot, but here goes it.
I lost a single key, one painted with flowers (mostly pink and green), with a single green tag attached to the ring. It was lost somewhere between 4th St NE and 12 St NE/L St NE and F St NE. Or! Below Stanton Park near 6th St NE/Constitution Ave NE.
Again, I realize the chances of someone seeing a floral key with a green tag on it is as slim as its gets. But I had to try. Thanks POPville!
I’m wondering about the cost of upgrading the wiring in my 1920 Petworth row house. The thought of an electrical fire is keeping me up at night. Some of the house has been rewired including the Kitchen, basement and upstairs ceiling lights, but the cloth wiring behind most of the light switches and the downstairs fixtures look original in a way that is not at all charming.
Has anyone in POPville taken on a project like this? Can I fix one room at a time, or do you have to do the whole house at once? Any ideas on the cost?
Also, and electrician recommendations would be greatly appreciated!
I work for a nonprofit downtown, and we recently upgraded our computer workstations. I have about 40 workstations that I need to unload; most of them are Pentium 4 OptiPlex machines that could be useful depending on the application.
In addition, we have a number of CRT monitors and other outdated/broken electronics taking up space.
My question: Is anybody familiar with services or organizations that will take them off our hands? It’s a little impractical for me to load them into my Civic and take them somewhere, so I’m hoping to find someone who will pick them up for us once the hard drives are wiped. I’ve looked into electronics recycling from companies like Waste Management but their prices are out of this world!
Thanks in advance.
I occasionally work from home and am trying to expand my rotation of places to work during the day when I get bored in my house. I know of a few places in Petworth that have free wi-fi, but does anyone know of others? Here’s what I’ve got:
Domku (only open for lunch on Fridays)
Qualia (no wi-fi on weekends)
Fasika Ethiopian (pretty sure I saw a free wi-fi sign last time I was there)
Incidentally, there is a group of folks who used to meet once a month at Domku, but hasn’t seen much activity in a while. If anyone else is a telecommuter in the neighborhood, maybe we can revitalize it! https://www.facebook.com/groups/105820842780311/
I still don’t have Fios at my address. Every month I check Verizon’s DC Construction Location List and it seems like they just list every single street in the city, which is just as annoying as not listing anything. By submitting random addresses around my house on Verizon’s website, it looks like Fios is installed a mere block away from me (but only on 1 side of the street). Does anyone out there have information on where Fios is available in Petworth, where installations are currently going on, or how soon it might be before the whole neighborhood has access? For reference, I live on the 100-block of Webster St, so I’m literally in the far corner of the neighborhood.
