I’m looking for a crib for our baby to sleep in at a family member’s house. No luck at the moment on craigslist. Ideally looking for something I can pick up in DC. Looking for pottery barn or something similar in excellent condition, up to about $200. White or grey preferred. Let me know if you’re looking to sell. Thanks!
I read this great article in Mother Jones called “What if Everything you know about disciplining kids is wrong” about the CPS method (Collaborative and Proactive Solutions method) of dealing with problem children. <http://m.motherjones.com/politics/2015/05/schools-behavior-discipline-collaborative-proactive-solutions-ross-greene>
I’m wondering if there are any schools in DC or the area who are trying this method out. The results described in the article are fantastic. Basically, instead of punishing kids for acting out, the method advocates talking to them to get at the underlying root of the issue- so as to help teach them self control. When tested in juvenile justice programs, it has had a great impact lowering recidivism rates. Also has been successful in schools that have tried it. Would love to know if this is being tried out in our area!
Hi. My family moved from Columbia Heights to Bethesda and are moving our son to a school close by. We need to find another family with a child to take his spot at DCJCC. Any leads to families, forums, etc would be much appreciated!
We’re looking for a newborn photographer for our first child. Does anyone have any recommendations for someone who will come to us? Thanks!
Taking 2 nine year olds who live in a neighborhood where there are not many houses/people with kids.
I know about Lamont Street and Lanier Street. Anywhere else we should consider going?
Hello. We’re about to move from abroad to Washington, with a very new baby whom we’d like to get on a daycare center waiting list. But from afar, it’s hard to discern the quality of each one.
Does anyone have experience with any of the following:
Bright Horizons L Street
Bright Horizons George Washington University
Bright Horizons IMF
Finding Dreams in Children
If I’m missing an obvious source of reviews, please could you kindly point me in the right direction?

Our daughter’s stroller was taken from in front of our house on Holmead Place on Sunday, April 7, between 1 and 2:30 PM. If anyone comes across a Maclaren umbrella stroller (limited edition navy blue with green, red and plaid tartan seat, with navy canopy, and a JL Childress black mesh organizer on the handles) with her lavender puffer coat in the bottom, please email me or reply back. We are offering a reward, and are hoping this was an accident. I really don’t want to think that neighbors would steal a stroller…
A picture of the stroller is below.
I’m newly pregnant and would love to join a pregnant moms in-person meeting group in the DC area (could also be in NOVA or Bethesda). Would anybody know of such a group? If not, if you are pregnant, would you like to form a group with me?
We are expecting our first kid in May 2013 and recently realized we’re way behind on setting up child care services. We’re probably open to an au pair, nanny or some combination – any recommendations or companies/places to avoid? Thanks!
My plans fell through last minute 🙁
I am employed as a nanny and would be happy to provide references. Petworth or Columbia Heights are ideal, but I’d be willing to travel.
I am looking to buy a house in DC and have been interested in researching and comparing different DC school districts. I know Capitol Hill has reputedly great public schools. I’m interested in staying in the Columbia Heights and Petworth area, though, which I know less about. I’ve also heard that the farther north you go into 16th Street Heights, the district lines put you in with the Tenleytown schools, which are really good. Does anyone know of any good websites or resources to find out this information? I know Redfin will tell you which schools are closest to the house you’re looking at. What’s the best way to figure out if they’re any good? Any thoughts greatly appreciated!
Lead Safe DC is an established community organization that provides lead poisoning prevention and healthy homes education to DC families with young children. We are currently organizing community workshops to get the word out on lead poisoning and how it can be prevented. DC has a 90% old home stock, making lead poisoning a real and current health concern for young children and pregnant woman. We would love to talk to the Petworth community 🙂
