Season 3 of the Petworth Jazz Project kicks off in true holiday weekend style this Saturday evening with The Bohemian Caverns Jazz Orchestra, a 17 piece big band, opening kids set featuring Baba Ras D of Bloombars, and The Tender Rib BBQ Truck!

As always the shows are free and on the lawn at the Petworth Recreation Center at 8th and Taylor St NW, blankets are provided!

El Limeno was located at 201 Upshur St, NW across the street from Hitching Post and closed in Sept. 2010 after some, uh, legal troubles… It had been vacant ever since. Thanks to @JustinTLogan for sending word that a sign has been posted for La Joya Steakhouse Restaurant. Could be awesome! Updates when they get closer to opening.

This morning at approximately 12:00 AM, 4D units received 911 calls for the sounds of gunshots around the area of 8th and Buchanan Street, Northwest. Shortly thereafter, 4D units located an adult male suffering from non life-threatening gunshot wounds at Kansas and Allison Street, Northwest. The individual was transported to a local area hospital for treatment.

G Spot Lounge opened up in Sept. 2010 at 5413 Georgia Ave, NW. In Sept. 2012 we learned the space was for rent/sale – $2,500/Mo to rent or a purchase price of $150,000. A liquor license application reveals it will become Cafe Midar:

“New Lounge serving American cuisine with live entertainment, dancing and cover charge. Seating Capacity is 200, total occupancy load is 210.”

Not sure if that is a typo but that seems like an ambitious capacity for such a small spot. Anyway, with the retirement of the G Spot Lounge – Climax Sports Bar now has the honors for the worst/best name in town…

Domku, Nathan Hill Design, and Petworth resident and community leader Carol Herwig will be presenting at this week’s ANC meeting to get funding for the Petworth Street Banner Project. We are attempting to raise funds through the city organizations, the ANC, and, if needed, through a crowdsourcing effort. Nathan will be proposing two design options at Wednesday’s meeting. This morning at approximately 1:00 AM, 4D units received 911 calls for the sounds of gunshots around the area of 7th and Shepherd Street, Northwest. Shortly thereafter, 4D units located an adult male suffering from a non life-threatening gunshot wound in the 700 block of Shepherd Street, Northwest. The individual was transported to a local area hospital for treatment.

Fourth District Detectives are investigating the shooting. Anyone with information is asked to call 202-727-9099.
