The new neighborhood restaurant will serve Tex-Mex favorites and Mi Cocina classics like the Tacos “De Brisket”, Sunset Fajitas, and Rico Salad. Mi Cocina honors long time employees, family members and personalities that have been a part of the restaurant’s unique history by naming menu items after them, sharing their culture with generations of Texans that have dined there since the first location opened in 1991.

At The Collection, a stylish and relaxed interior will accommodate 155 in an open dining room.

You can see their menu here. Hours will be Sun – Thu 11am – 10pm; Fri & Sat 11am – 11pm.

Back in Feb. we learned Tynan coffee had closed in Friendship Heights and would be replaced by a Le Pain Quotidien.

Our brand new store is the 13th one in the DC area, and is located at the Shops of Wisconsin Place, an urbane lifestyle center in Chevy Chase, Maryland. We occupy a part of the open plaza next to Bloomingdale’s, with large outdoor patio seating. Guests can enjoy our boulangeire fare with handmade organic bread, pastries, tartines, soups and salads. We stay true to our sustainable roots by incorporating eco-friendly features like LED lighting, recycled cast-iron arched windows and refurbished church pew seating.

Back in Dec. 2012 we learned that Mi Cocina Tex-Mex restaurant was coming to Friendship Heights. You can see their menu here. Lots more details and an opening date from a press release:

The modern restaurant brims with delicious, time-honored recipes, all the while embracing a comfortable and family-friendly attitude that has been celebrated by all ages for more than 20 years. Mi Cocina prepares its diverse menu fresh daily with authentic Mexican cooking techniques and the finest ingredients.

At The Collection, a stylish and relaxed interior will accommodate 155 in an open dining room. Adorned with custom chandeliers and a showpiece mural from Mexican-born artist Luis Sottil, the dining room embraces both the old and the new. Sottil’s bright and vibrant works are crafted with natural pigments, depicting creatures and plants found locally alongside wildlife found in abundance in his native Tampico, an exuberant port in the Gulf of Mexico. The restaurant also offers a comfortable, glass-enclosed private dining room for up to 25 guests, perfect for parties or office meetings with a sweeping view of the colorful interior. Seasonally, the front of the restaurant opens up to Wisconsin Avenue allowing guests to enjoy al fresco dining in addition to the spacious, shaded courtyard patio located in the breezeway.

Thanks to a reader for sending the photo above from the Chevy Chase Pavilion in Friendship Heights (5335 Wisconsin Avenue, NW.) Washingtonian reports:

The original Frederick location of the sandwich shop boasts a menu that’s both moderately priced and family-friendly—think a $4.50 grilled cheese sandwich and fruit cups alongside more grown-up options like a wedge salad with barbecue chicharrones and a slow-cooked pork shoulder sandwich with pickled cabbage and cilantro.

You can see their full menu here. Chef Voltaggio opened RANGE in the Chevy Chase Pavilion back in Dec. 2012.

Earlier in the week Eater DC had posted a tip that Tynan Coffee’s Friendship Heights location had closed at 5310 Western Ave. NW (Wisconsin and Western Ave, NW.) A good source tells me that the space will likely become a Le Pain Quotidien. Stay tuned.

Located next door to Bryan Voltaggio’s recently opened RANGE comes – Civil Cigar Lounge in the Chevy Chase Pavilion.

Their website says:

CIVIL CIGAR LOUNGE — brought to you by John Anderson and Matt Krimm of W. Curtis Draper Tobacconist — is a premium cigar lounge and small plate eatery concept located in the Chevy Chase Pavilion, 5335 Wisconsin Avenue NW in Washington, DC. A carefully curated selection of premium cigars from Nicaragua, Honduras and the Dominican Republic will be paired with premium and small batch spirits, wines, beers and specialty cocktails.

The small plates menu will be developed exclusively by Chef Bryan Voltaggio’s RANGE, located adjacent to CIVIL in the Chevy Chase Pavilion.

CIVIL features a 500 square foot retail section and 5,000 square foot lounge. Our state of the art air handling system replaces 100% of the air in the facility every two minutes. In addition, 125 humidified cigar lockers are available for lease.

When I was checking out RANGE opening in 5335 Wisconsin Avenue, NW I also saw a sign for a new Tex-Mex restaurant near the Friendship Heights metro. Mic Cocina’s website says:

“Welcome to Mi Cocina where everything we offer is hand-crafted and made fresh daily using authentic Mexican cooking techniques and the finest ingredients available. From our famous, homemade salsa to our mouthwatering, hand-dipped enchiladas, you can taste the freshness and quality in every bite. Relax in our comfortable stylish surroundings with one of our legendary Mambo Taxis® served by our family of warm, friendly and professional staff. It’s our honor to serve you!”

Lots of folks have been eagerly anticipating the new restaurant, RANGE, from chef Bryan Voltaggio opening up in the Chevy Chase Pavilion by the Friendship Heights metro. I was able to attend a media preview last night and felt like I was launched into the future:

From a press release:

RANGE encompasses 14,000 square feet where the open kitchen design allows the 300 seats a view and ample interaction with the team of chefs. The kitchen stations include charcuterie, bakery, raw bar, rotisserie, wood fired hearth, dessert and candy, and coffee bar. Voltaggio’s approach promotes the use of whole animals such as Border Springs Farm lambs and Roseda Black Angus Farm steers that are butchered on-site and featured in a collection of offerings that include alternative cuts like shoulders, legs, and offal. Local game, fowl and the freshest seafood straight from the Chesapeake also grace the menu to meet all appetites. One menu is presented throughout the restaurant and highlights seasonal ingredients sourced from the Mid-Atlantic region prepared through classic and progressive techniques.
