“Dear PoPville,

I wanted to share this feel good story because my confidence in local police (in Arlington) was just reaffirmed.

On Tuesday night I was driving to DC from the Rosslyn at 6:45 pm and was sitting in bumper to bumper traffic on Key Bridge. When the two lanes become three, the car behind me veered into the far left lane to prevent me from merging. He pulled his car up next to mine and proceeded to yell obscenities at me through our open windows (it was an unusually warm night). When the light finally changed he pulled ahead of me, scratching the front left side of my car. Traffic was horrible, so I was forced to sit behind him for another 10 minutes until we were able to turn left. During that time, he removed items from his car and threw them at my car. When we were finally able to turn onto M, I pulled off the road to avoid him any further (clearly he was not going to pull over to exchange insurance information). (more…)

“This afternoon [Monday], around 12pm, my partner was sitting in his car writing an email on his phone in front of Streets Market on 14th when a man approached the car and knocked on the window. He lowered the window a couple inches, and the man demanded that he hand over everything on him. Luckily a car turned up the street at that moment, distracting the would-be robber, and he was able to drive away and call the police. Police were on the scene in 20 minutes, and were able to apprehend the suspect, as he had already robbed someone right before. Thanks to the police, this guy is off the streets, at least for now.”

From MPD:

“At approximately 9:45pm on Thursday night, two subjects were observed shooting handguns in the 1400 block of R Street NW. An alert member of the community called 911 and gave a detailed description of the subjects. Responding units were quickly able to locate and apprehend both subjects in the area. Two handguns were recovered subsequent to the arrests of the two adult males. Fortunately, nobody was injured as a result of the reckless behavior by these subjects.

By calling 911 and providing the officers with a detailed description, the community member was critical in these successful apprehensions. This is another example of the outstanding relationship that the MPD (and the Third District specifically) values with our communities.

Thank you to all. Enjoy the holiday season and be safe.”
