“Lime, the world’s largest provider of shared electric vehicles, launched its brand new Gen4 e-bike today in Washington DC, making the District the first city on earth to experience the new ride. The new bike comes equipped with lock-to technology and a swappable, interchangeable battery that is compatible with Lime’s Gen4 e-scooters, which will significantly enhance the efficiency and sustainability of its operations, and improve vehicle availability for riders. The launch in Washington DC is the first time any city has had a whole fleet of Gen4 e-bikes available following small-scale pilots in several cities in 2021. Lime will continue to launch the industry leading bike in more cities around the world this spring, including other American cities like Atlanta and Charleston.
Next week Lime will also launch its groundbreaking Lime Able program in DC, through which people with limited mobility can reserve a scooter for free and have it delivered to their homes. Read More

Something I’ve noticed recently, empty capital bike share racks. I live in DuPont and the 6 racks closest to me had 3 bikes available total on Saturday afternoon. And when I walked over to the 15th and P rack there were 5 bikes that were out of service with the red lights. Thinking on it this has been the norm lately, one to two bikes at racks built to hold 15+. I walked up to a rack on Pennsylvania Ave in foggy bottom Friday and it had one bike with a flat tire. Any idea if they are struggling as a company or have just stopped maintenance on their fleet due to the pandemic dropping demand?”

“Today, the District Department of Transportation and its six partner jurisdictions announced a new partnership between Capital Bikeshare, operated by Lyft, and the Washington Metropolitan Area Transit Authority (Metro) to incentivize riders to use clean transportation options. Metrobus and Metrorail riders who purchase a virtual SmarTrip card or transfer their physical, plastic SmarTrip card to mobile pay on Android, iPhone or Apple Watch will receive ten 30-minute classic rides on Capital Bikeshare, valid for 30 days. The promotion is also good for riders with an existing virtual SmarTrip card. Read More

“Detectives with the Metropolitan Police Department’s Major Crash Investigations Unit are investigating a traffic fatality resulting from a traffic crash that occurred on Friday, April 9, 2021, at the intersection of 2nd Street and Massachusetts Avenue, NW.
Preliminary investigation revealed that at approximately 7:30 pm, a bicyclist and a 2012 Kia Sorrento were traveling westbound on Massachusetts Avenue, NW. Concurrently, the operator of a 2020 Honda Civic was traveling west in the same block. The Honda struck the rear of the Kia and the bicyclist simultaneously. The Kia then entered into the intersection of Massachusetts Avenue and 2nd Street, NW, striking a 2013 Ford Van the was traveling north on 2nd Street, NW. The Honda then struck a 2015 Dodge Durango, that was traveling north in the same block before coming to final rest. Read More
