Let’s See Your Fancy Diplomatic Plate Get You Out of This One

In all seriousness, this sucks. Thanks to Susan for sending from the 100 block of 5th Street, SE.

  • The title is joking about all of the diplomatic immunity that foreign diplomats possess, and often abuse. The joke being, that for once, their diplomatic immunity and political ties have no way of helping them with this situation(as a tree fell and there is no one at fault/to blame)….and that they’ll be handling it like anyone else would have to. Not sure how you interpreted it to imply that the car cause the tree falling?

Oh come on. I know there’s a trade dispute about lumber, but dropping a tree on the car of a Canadian embassy staffer seems a little on the nose, even for Trump.

  • When I hear about diplomatic immunity, it is in the context of diplomats breaking laws, often causing harm to others, with complete immunity.

From the title of this post, the “…can get you out of this one” made me think I was going to read post about a driver doing something stupid and hitting a tree and bringing it down.
    .
What I saw was this photo, and no description of what caused the accident, and from the photo it was entirely unclear what had occurred. (I still don’t know what happened to this car and tree.)

So, why write a title to the post implying that the car had caused the accident? It was a reasonable question – I am rather certain I can’t be the only one who had that reaction to the headline … sorry popville is so sensitive about comments … it would make more sense to explain than to be vitriolic, or to maybe at least take in what a comment says (that the headline implies the driver was at fault.)

  • car was an unwitting victim. the tree was apparently dead, or at least 3/4 of it was. it had been kept going by roots that took up only 1/4 of the trunk; hence green leaves. guess it just plopped……

  • Timberrrrrrr! I knew that would be Trump’s opening shot in the lumber war!!!

(TG on a diplomatic plate is Canada.)
