Spring Fling at the Old Soldiers Home is this Saturday

“Spring Fling! This fifth annual daytime event will be held the first Saturday in May under a big tent on the driving range of the Soldiers Home. Come out and see your neighbors and visit with a veteran. Food trucks, beer, kids activities, carnival games and live music with performances by Suspicious Package!

For those of you who can volunteer to help with this wonderful event. Use this link and you will see opportunities to sign up for set up, takedown, games and other activities.”

  • Does anyone know if they’re doing the 5K this year?

    • It’s usually near the end of September so I wouldn’t be surprised if they haven’t announced it yet. But to answer your question, no, I don’t.

  • Gonna make an obligatory comment about how I wish this place would take down its boundaries, open up some of its land to urban development, and use the proceeds to build more housing and amenities for more retired veteran residents in such a way as they can actually be neighbors to Petworth and Brookland.

    • There are non-short term plans for development at Michigan and North Capitol. The property is federal land so any changes are going to be slow and require dedicated funding (e.g. taking down fences).
