Ethiopic Celebrating 7 Years on H Street Today

401 H Street, NE

It’s easy to forget with H Street’s status today but when Ethiopic first opened to rave reviews back in 2010 – this was a huge deal and not without obstacles. Huge congrats to Ethiopic (and condolences to the employee):

Hard to believe but here’s what Ethiopic looked like when they first opened seven years ago:

Ethiopic has served as a great entry point to Ethiopian food for so many out of town guests of ours. It’s not the best flavor wise, but the atmosphere makes it a lot more welcoming than most for people unfamiliar with the cuisine.

  • I love Ethiopic – it was a great addition to the neighborhood!
I forgot what the building looked like before. The neighborhood has been changing so much it’s nice to be reminded.

  • Still the top of the class in Ethiopian food in a city that was very well known for its Ethiopian food.

    • Not at all. Maybe the fanciest, but the flavors are somewhat bland and the prices higher than many of the other Ethiopian joints.

  • We’ve only been to Ethiopic once, and the food was completely meh (and quite a bit more expensive than other DC Ethiopian restaurants). Addis down the street (7th and H) doesn’t have much in the way of atmosphere, but they make up for it and then some with the cooking.

  • Not a fan. I ate there twice and was unimpressed with the food. Paid too much for a mediocre meal.
But good for them that they are doing welll

  • Ethiopic is one of the best. Can’t believe it’s been 7 years. Congrats!!!
