“This hawk was spotted just outside of Department of Labor yesterday afternoon. I was approximately 5 feet away. Never seen a hawk like this is the wild so close. Amazing!”

  • There’s a great video on YouTube of an eagle picking up a toddler and carrying him a few feet into the air before dropping him. I’d keep close watch over babies and toy dogs if I saw one of these nearby.

    • That video was fake. It was a project for video design students. A+ work, though.
Although there was a story of a hawk in NYC who snatched someone’s purse dog.

I worked at DOL from 1985 – 1999 and there was a family of hawks nesting nearby. Maybe that’s why he let you get so close – they are very used to being around people: workers and tourists.

  • Juvenile red-tailed hawk (they don’t earn their red tails right away). Wonderful close-up!

  • Well, the district HAS seen an unprecedented influx of rats into its government buildings…
