Sad news for Cleveland Park about Sorriso closing:

“Sorriso is a family run neighborhood restaurant located in the heart of Cleveland Park. We offer authentic Italian cuisine using a state of the art wood burning pizza oven and our pasta and desserts are made daily on premise. We use only the finest local and imported meat, fish, and produce.”

Word on the street is that a new Turkish/Asian fusion restaurant will be taking over the space.

Official word for the Sorriso owners:

“I am happy to announce that we have sold Sorriso and will be serving our last meal on Sunday, Oct 30th (Cafe Sorriso in Woodley Park will remain open with many of Sorriso’s favorite dishes joining the menu!) What we originally planned as a 5 year family project turned into an amazing 13 + year run full of love, sweat, tears, and more amazing friendships than we can count. Pietro and Rosemarie will be spending more time in Italy cultivating an organic veggie garden, riding their bikes through the vineyard, and we imagine playing tour guide to many of you.

Lastly, we sold the space to a lovely family who will be opening an entirely new restaurant for our beloved Cleveland Park community. We wish them many beautiful memories and years to come in a special place that we hold dear to our hearts.”

  • It is sad to lose a neighborhood place, but I am very happy that another place should be coming in there shortly. Hopefully it will be good. Also, for anyone looking for Italian in the area, I recommend Coppi’s down the street. The food is delicious. The service can honestly be pretty bad, but the food makes up for it in my mind.

    • Sorriso was good and consistent, and the owners were warm and engaging. They will be missed.

      • I am so sad. They’re amazing! The first really good Italian food I’ve ever had stateside. I hope the owners enjoy the next phase in their lives!

  • This place will be missed! I loved their saffron risotto with shrimp.

  • This place had simply spectacular and underrated thin crust pizza, so sad to see it go! Glad to hear a new restaurant is coming, though, last thing CP needs is another empty storefront..

No kidding… although that side of the street has done a good job of retaining and/or filling vacant spaces.

  • So glad Cafe Sorriso is staying open – I’d be crying right now if I couldn’t still get some of their pastas!

Enjoy your leisure time, and thanks for all the happy meals in your very welcoming space!
