From MPD:

“At approximately 7:08pm on Friday, we received a call for a sounds of gunshots in the 1400 block of Fairmont Street NW. Responding units located 2 vehicles that had been struck, but no victims. While investigating the matter, with the assistance of a tip from the community, officers located a handgun inside of a vehicle in the area and seized it pending further identification of the vehicle’s owner. We are not certain that this is the weapon responsible for the gunshots, so we are continuing to investigate. This is the case I referenced when I indicated that one is still pending investigation/arrest.”

Ed. Note: Shots were also fired in this area Saturday and Sunday.

  • What is horrifying about this incident (from witness accounts) is that the shooter first walked through the DPR playground (the same one where there was a shooting last summer) and once he got to the other sides of the playground gates on Fairmont started firing. Parents and children had to run for cover.
That playground hosts preschool recesses every day (Apple Tree), along with recess for the DPR co-ops and numerous childcare facilities. I am hopeful that MPD will provide a police presence during school hours to deter this from happening again.

  • So shootings happen within one block of each other on three consecutive days , and police are unable to locate a suspect? Why bother staffing a force.

    • You read the two articles about multiple shootings in the one block are, but missed the part about three gun recoveries. Two of which also had arrests.
