“The long, cold spring this year didn’t do my garden any favors, but everything’s finally ripening; Golden Boy and Cherokee Purple tomatoes, jalapeños, Thai super chilies and Caribbean red hots.”

    Gorgeous!

  • Anyone ever heard of a garden haul exchange in DC? Like a clothing swap but for home-grown veggies and herbs.

Admittedly I’m still trying to develop my own green thumb and really only succeeded with about a quarter of my plants this year, but I have so much basil that I don’t know what to do with all of it! I do share with friends, and already made a big batch of pesto but would love to trade some of my stuff with others.

    • make pesto w/out the cheese and freeze it in ice trays–it’s great for adding to sauces throughout the rest of the year. too much basil is a perfect problem to have!

      • Too much basil has never been a problem for me, but I’ve placed other excess herbs on the curb (in a box, with some ziplocs, and a sign that says FREE MINT! MAKE MOJITOS TONIGHT! or whatever). It always vanishes quickly.

  • Nice! Still waiting for my first ripe tomato.
