Your Afternoon Animal Fix

If you have any animal/pet photos you’d like to share please send an email to princeofpetworth(at)gmail(dot)com with ‘Animal Fix’ in the title and say the name of your pet and your neighborhood. Your photos will go into the queue (usually 2 weeks wait) and will be posted in the order I receive them. If you’ve already entered your pet and would like to do so again – that’s no problem – just space the entries out a bit. Please try to send horizontal photos 640×480 (medium size on your iphone) if possible. If you’re not using an iphone any size is fine.

“Sending along a photo of Raina, aka “Traffic Kitty,” who is 6-weeks old. I was in an Uber driving to work a week ago in the rain when I spotted a very very tiny kitty in the middle of 395! The uber driver was nice enough to pull off while I ran back and managed to catch her. She’d been just sitting there alone in a mud puddle, along one of the concrete barriers.

Despite her rough start, she only had minor eye infections and, with treatment, is now doing great! Here are before and after shots of her. The before was taken in the Uber right after we caught her. And, kudos to the Uber driver Michael who was brave enough to stop his car for me so we could rescue her.

Kudos to Atlas Vet who helped nurse her back to health and who waived their normal emergency fee due to “good Samaritanism.”

“I found a cat in our yard last night who doesn’t seem to want to go home. Super friendly, and very clearly belongs to someone. I can be contacted at h_wilson(at)mac.com.”

  • I love the cute-kitten photo and the heartwarming story behind it!

Thanks! She’s doing great and tomorrow goes to her “forever home” with my best friend Rick (I’ve been nursing her back to health until her eye infections cleared up). Despite her attempt at winning a Darwin Award on 395, she’s a sweetheart.

  • We really want to see the before photo, PoP!

    • Ally

Yeah, he can hopefully post it if he has time. She looks like Yoda while wet (poor thing). Plus, you get to see my awkward double chin 😉

Cute kitten, and she is so lucky to have a forever home now.
Love the pic of Ozzy, he looks quite dapper.
    Found kitty is very pretty.

  • Does anyone recognize if the cat who won’t go home is a particular mix of breeds? My family cat looked like this, with blue eyes though, and was really beautiful. We always wondered. She had a fairly thick undercoat. We got her from a rescue. They said she’d been left in a box in their alley with a bunch of brothers and sisters.

  • The pattern is called a dilute torbie/tortie. No special breed, just a particular color pattern.

    • Yep — dilute tortoiseshell.
      .
(“Torbie” is a mix of tabby and tortoiseshell patterning/coloration. I don’t see a tabby pattern on this cat… but maybe it’s there and I’m just not seeing it.)

  • I would like to see the before photo too!

  • Kudos to you as well. It’s rare to read about someone rescuing a kitten. I rescued one 3 years ago, about a month after one of my beloved cats passed away suddenly. I spent $6,000.00 in medical bills but she was worth every penny and more.

    • Ally

Thank you. Yeah, she’s a darling. We lucked out in that the medical bills weren’t too bad for her. Only a few hundred for the exam, shots, and antibiotics. Our last rescue was up close to the $6k you spent, so I can relate.

Update for the group on the kitten: She transitioned to her “forever home” over the weekend and is doing great and raising hell (she’s at that awesome kitten phase where they think it’s fun to run like a crazy person in the middle of the night and bite your toes…heh).
