Coming Soon Signage for Shaw’s Cava Grill

Back in February we learned:

“Cava Grill is thrilled to announce a fall 2016 opening in Shaw’s hip epicenter at The Shay building. The 2,500 square foot space will place focus on the local community with art and lifestyle events hosted throughout the year.”

Thanks to all who emailed about the coming soon signage. Based on the number of emails I received this spot is going to be very, very popular.

  • Cava would crush it in Park Place above hthe e Petworth Metro. Come on, people.

    • It’s shameful how long all of those spaces have been vacant. I know they have a tax abatement, but even still, I don’t understand how it could make business sense.

      • What? They’ve been vacant (and filling in) for like 6 months. Retail leasing takes time.

        • Are you thinking of a different building? Many of the spaces in Park Place have been vacant for something like 6 years, not 6 months.
          .
People have noted recently (with some alarm) that the Wells Fargo build-out seems to have stalled. I hope this doesn’t mean Wells Fargo isn’t going to come after all.

That build-out is kind of weird as it is — a long wall with an ATM-machine-sized hole and a doorway at the end. To my eye it looks like an ATM vestibule instead of a staffed branch.

  • Its going to be very, very popular because there are few good fast casual spots in the area (now with glen’s its gotten better). [I feel like I might be flamed for this comment – but Im open to suggestions of other fast casual to go spots around there]

    • You’re totally right. I live in Shaw, and there’s nothing fast casual in the area save Glen’s, Rito Loco and Dacha Market – the latter of which has serious wait/price issues. I’d love another option.

    • Agreed! But soon we’ll have three new options: Cava Grill, Tasty Burger (mentioned on PoP yesterday), and the upcoming Half Smoke at 7th & Florida NW. Although, I haven’t seen much movement on the Half Smoke space in quite sometime. http://www.popville.com/2015/11/half-smoke-dc-7th-florida/

    • I’d offer Zenebech, BKK, Beau Thai and Kochix as additional neighborhood to-go options. But I do agree about opportunities for more fast casual.

  • I Dont Get It

Is it hypocritical to be happy for all the new retail around The Shay (“Where Fashion and Culture Meet” ) yet still mock The Shay? Asking for a friend…
