Shelter in Place for the Capitol Complex after Shooting at Visitors Center – “Shooter in Custody”

Update from MPD:

“There has been an isolated incident at the US Capitol. There is no active threat to the public

Senate Sergeant at Arms alerts:

“Due to police activity, Capitol Police have issued a shelter in place for the Capitol complex. Please stay in your designated area.”

“Per USCP, shelter in place has been lifted and the Capitol is open for official business only. Capitol Visitor Center remains closed.”

  • Any comments on this? I don’t work down that way so idk what happened- seems odd there are no comments given that people had a lot to say about the free fridge, union station expansion, and an antique wood staircase. Aren’t there a fair amount of readers that work in that area? I’d be curious on first hand experience as opposed to the stuff you read on the news…

    • There’s a lot of Twitter activity from inside the Capitol/office buildings related to this that you can read. I’m not sure how many on POP actually work inside. I work a block from the White House and we didn’t even get an alert. The only thing I noticed was all the people walking around in dress clothes because of the easter egg roll…

      • Good to know- thanks. Maybe the Capitol Police kept this one low key…just seems odd for an incident to make national news and get no comments on the local blog.
