“Great source of obscure liqueur”

Irving
3100 Mt Pleasant Street, NW

“Dear PoPville,

I’ve looked around the better known places (e.g., Lion’s, Calvert Woodley) for hard-to-find liqueurs. Turns out, the tiny corner store Irving Wine & Spirit in Mt. Pleasant has a much bigger selection than those other stores that are easily 5 times their size. They even have a website which I stumbled upon while searching for a terrific Amaro I tried at Maple. The staff has always been very friendly too. I’m hoping that more people start searching them out so as to encourage them to keep carrying such unique booze.”

  • This place has a fantastic vermouth and aperitif selection. Also Herman is the man!

  • I’ve lived in Mt Pleasant for just over 20 years and the transformation of that place is really great. When I first moved in they had every color of Mad Dog and lots of 40’s. The place looked sketchy as all get out. The people there have always been nice and they’ve really adapted to the changes around them. Their beer selection has really picked up but I had no idea about the liquor selection, I’ll start going there for that also.

  • We LOVE Irving Street Liquor!

  • Batch 13 is another option to consider if you’re looking for something obscure, but glad you could fins what you want at Irving.

  • Not only do they have an excellent selection, but their prices are often some of the best in town as well. Some great whiskeys to be had at prices $5-$15 less than elsewhere.

  • And they open during snow storms.

  • I agree. Just went there this past weekend. They had exactly what I was looking for. Friendly, and a compliment to boot! Shop there!

  • This place is pretty great for liquor but, their beers are often $1-2 more than D’vines and Samber up the street and I’ve bought a few beers that were skunked/miskept. The staff is great, but their website isn’t always up to date so I’d always call first.

  • Do they have Cachaça? Usually, there’s just one brand and not a great one.

  • YES! This place is the best. They have the most random, interesting assortment of alcohol. And they order manzanilla sherry for me on the regular; which I cannot find anywhere else. Such a well-deserved shout-out.

Also, tip: The empire state apple whiskey that sits on the top shelf of one of the end caps near the beer cooler. Huge hit at parties.

  • Excellent establishment! Thanks for highlighting yet another Mt. P gem.

  • +1 on the shout out. When I moved to MTP from the Hill 5 years ago I was bummed about leaving Schneider’s behind, but Irving Wine and Spirits has a great selection and very friendly staff!

  • *And* they allow dogs and keep milkbones behind the counter!
