  • Let’s not jump to conclusions that this is in any way related to Tyler house, sibley plaza, or the concentration of public housing in this area. If we did admit that, then we would have to do something about it.

    • More Police Presence would be a good start but it a whole heck of a lot of ground to cover so its really not hard to miss something.

  • This corner is always very sketchy. They need some constant police presence here. Bright lights might be a good idea also. More development is coming to this area so I’m hopeful for improvement.

  • Don’t worry, according the our esteemed Councilmember who oversees public safety, “more police” isn’t related at all to increased public safety and the reduced number of police officers is perfectly acceptable. Of course, perhaps if we’d been paying the shooter(s) a $9,000 stipend each year, they wouldn’t have committed this crime. So really, it’s our fault this happened, and not the killer’s fault. At least that’s how our City Council would explain it.

  • Has there been any news about a suspect or arrest? Police apprehended one suspect who ran from the scene shortly after the police arrived (I witnessed this and captured video from my window.) They also had a second person in custody when I went out and walked by the scene 1/2 hour later.

    • I would also like to know more about this. Was it a targeted “hit,” a robbery, a random shooting? Where can I learn more about this?

  • M Street was still closed at 9:30am today. Last night, it seemed like there was a much bigger crowd out in front of Big Ben’s than normal when I was heading home from work.

  • Isn’t that whole swatch of land (Kst NW up to NY ave NW) scheduled to be razed?? If not, it should be ASAP.

    • Sort of. The low-rise buildings are slated to go, but the high rises will remain.

      • Tyler House (north of M) is section 8 and is basically run by a slumlord developer. If i am not mistaken, DC Housing has recently renewed their contract within the last few years. Sibley Plaza (South of M) is run by DC Housing Authority, not much better of a landlord. I could be wrong but i don’t believe there are plans to get rid of either of these any time soon. i agree, they should be.

    • Just Sursum Corda. It does make up most of the area you mentioned, but Tyler House, Sibley, and Severna are (to my knowledge) staying.

  • Since moving to M/North Cap I’ve been monitoring the local police group on yahoo. They are great about answering questions. Here’s the info they posted today about last night’s shooting.
