Your Afternoon Animal Fix

If you have any animal/pet photos you’d like to share please send an email to princeofpetworth(at)gmail(dot)com with ‘Animal Fix’ in the title and say the name of your pet and your neighborhood. Your photos will go into the queue (usually 2 weeks wait) and will be posted in the order I receive them. If you’ve already entered your pet and would like to do so again – that’s no problem – just space the entries out a bit. Please try to send horizontal photos 640×480 (medium size on your iphone) if possible. If you’re not using an iphone any size is fine.

“Duncan of Near Northeast thought the snow was pretty nifty…at least until he realized that it was also wet. Lydia, on the other hand, was having none of it right from the start and tried to climb the fence to escape.”

    cute kitties on leashes!
Skipper is a good looking pup.

  • Cute kitties! I’m just curious — are they accustomed to walking outside using those nifty harness jackets? (Are they jackets meant for cats, or repurposed ones meant for dogs?)

    • I don’t really take them for walks, but I do put them on the harness and let them explore the fenced back yard. It bothered them at first but at this point they’re pretty resigned to it and walk around like normal, although it does mess up their sense of body awareness enough that sometimes they miss really easy jumps while wearing it and have to hastily put on “I meant to do that” expressions when they fall off a chair. I assume they’ll get more agile with practice. The brand is Kitty Holster, and it’s meant for cats.

      • How long did it take before they got use to it? My cats hated it when I tried it this summer.

        • Maybe half a dozen wearings? I didn’t even try putting them on a leash or taking them outside until they were comfortable wandering around the house in the harness.

      • Just now seeing this reply about the Kitty Holster cat jackets. That’s interesting that the jackets mess up their body awareness. I noticed that the Cone of Shame messed up my cat’s body awareness (when she had ringworm and I was putting the cone on her for short periods so that she couldn’t immediately clean the antifungal cream off her face), but I assumed that was because it interfered with her face whiskers.

  • Snow cats! Loving them.

  • Even raccoons prefer cleared sidewalks!

I also saw a raccoon walking through the neighborhood this morning in Brentwood!

Are those Sturdi cat jackets? I have them for Savannah and Jeep but so far they fight me to put them on.

  • When the trash collector’s away, the raccoons will play.
