Random Reader Rant and/or Revel

You can talk about whatever is on your mind – quality of life issues, a beautiful tree you spotted, scuttlebutt, or any random questions/thoughts you may have. But please no personal attacks and no need to correct people’s grammar. This is a place to vent and/or celebrate things about daily life in DC.

We’ll be back to our normal posting schedule on Tuesday.

  • Revel: Spa World! Such a weird place but it was so relaxing.
Revel: It felt so nice to wake up yesterday and not have to scramble getting ready for work today
Rant: I still spent 2+ hours grading yesterday and expect to spend another 2-3 hours planning today.

  • Rant: Miscommunication has dominated my weekend. I offended a longtime friend with a tactless comment about her new boyfriend, backed out of a last-resort-babysitting offer, and got annoyed when another friend staying with me forgot to mention I was meant to go to dinner at another person’s house tonight. Anyways, I dont buy this whole mercury retrograde crap but…maybe I should keep it in mind the next time I open my mouth.
    Rave: Day off.

Rave: Client on Friday provided a catered lunch and instead of going the normal boring garbage Panera route, went big and ordered from Panda Gourmet, AND included a bunch of dishes off their sichuan menu like Dan Dan Noodles and Ma Po Tofu. Bold move, but an appreciated one.
Rant: It was 16 degrees when I left the house this morning.
Rave: No traffic on the way in to work.
    Rant: I’m at work.

When I initially read this, I thought Panda Gourmet was food court chinese, and was thinking that sounds much worse than Panera.
      .
Agree – I biked to work today, and it was very cold.

    • Funny. Was just talking about that place, and the Dan Dan noodles. Client sounds like a keeper. Last client-supplied lunch I had was Chick-fil-A in Alabama. That’s right — envy me.

  • I Dont Get It

Rave: I bought a bag of “Ragin’ Cajun 10-Bean Soup” and made 9-bean soup. Yes it was tedious picking out the dried split green peas but well worth the effort! It will taste even better tonight!
Rant: Apparently I am the only person left in this organization that can send out a meeting invitation. Hmm…I’m not your AA!
Rant: My need to have to the house spotless, all laundry done and all bills paid before I leave on a trip.

  • Rave: No traffic…
    Rant:…on my way to work
Rave: but I had a great weekend. My sister, the nieces, and I went out for breakfast and then to the new indoor playground thing in DC USA. They must be raking it in, that place was packed. I think my favorite thing was the two dads, who are obviously friends, hanging out in the ball pit chatting while their kids played next to them.
Rant: I know my nieces love me, but they really care more about seeing my dog than me. The two year old was miffed I didn’t bring the dog into a coffee shop to have breakfast with us.
Rave: I discovered that Dapper Old Gentleman (DOG) doesn’t like to have his face blow dried, but does like wedging his head between my knees while I blow dry the rest of him. Weirdo.

Ah, I miss the no-traffic government holiday days. Now it just feels like any other work day. Although I guess my current no-traffic-everyday commute is nothing to complain about.

Also, kids will always think dogs are cooler than adults. But since you have a dog you get to be cool by association.

  • Rant: I could be joining one of the two service events I signed up for, but have to work.
Rave: Wonderful wedding reception this weekend (the couple had already gotten married in India, so this was just a reception for their friends and family in the US – it was a ton of fun, had amazing Indian food, great music, and a lovely video of the actual ceremony so those of us who couldn’t make it to India could see some of the 4 days of festivities, including the couple riding an elephant).
Rant: Our building is technically closed today, so they don’t have the heat on. And my boss is of the “it matters more that you are physically here and spending hours at work than if you can get your work done on your own or quickly” opinion, so I’m stuck here even though I could do most of my work from my warm, cozy apartment.
Rave: Even though work is crazy, most of my coworkers are amazing and we’ve really banded together.

  • Rant: Went to the DMV on Saturday to get my Real ID. Turns out they were closed for MLK day.
Rave: Didn’t spend nearly as much time at the DMV as expected.

  • Rave: 3 day weekend. *Finally* saw Star Wars and really enjoyed it. Well done J.J.! Bonus points for seeing it before spoilers ruined it.
Revel: Possible snow storm/snow day. I know I’m weird, but I love watching it snow enjoying a cozy fire in my fireplace.
Rant: Snowed for 20 mins. Sat and the grocery store looked like end of days. It’s okay people you will be able to get out again before Spring. Just keep calm and carry on.
