  • I never visited the one in Foggy Bottom – is it actually good? Worth it? One is opening at Penn this year…..

    • I went once. I liked it enough that I’ll definitely go to this one (which is in an area that I frequent) but not enough that I’ve trekked back to Foggy Bottom since my one visit. The food was good, but it was very slow. I worry what it’d be like during busy times.

      • +1. It was delicious, and I’m looking forward to going back, but if you go the build your own route, it’s a huge menu of options, which can be really slow for those with “menu paralysis.” On top of that, the staff seems to struggle a bit too, matching orders that are cooking back up with the customer in line.

        • You put your finger on it – they have a big process problem. There was only one person in line ahead of me and I ordered one of the pre-designed choices with no modifications. It still took more than 10 minutes to get my food, with lots of confusing moving back and forth and questions and long waits and staff unsure of what they were doing. And this was at least three months after it opened.
I hope they figure it out because the final result (I got the Eden) was tasty and satisfying.

    • I think I’m the target demographic for this place — I love all of the ingredients they use and generally appreciate their approach — but was totally underwhelmed with the food the two times I tried it. Maybe more than underwhelmed, actually. It just didn’t taste or look good to me at all. The combos are a bit off kilter, IMHO, and I didn’t love that all of the vegetables were cooked and in sauces. I’d take Sweetgreen over Beefsteak in a heartbeat — and easily could because both locations are steps away from a Sweetgreen.

      • hm interesting – thanks! I won’t rush to try it and let them work out kinks. I love the concept….

      • Agreed. Aside from the long wait, it felt like just a lot of “stuff” all thrown together without much flavor or harmony. I didn’t like the weird all-boiled-together aspect esp as vegetables have different cooking times. Haven’t been back despite it being just by my office.

      • +1 It was basically an overpriced rice bowl. There wasn’t anything wrong with it, per se, but I agree that the combinations were odd and it seemed like there too many different flavors going on. I think I would have liked it better if they had pared down the amount of add-ins, or at least made the ones offered a bit more complementary.

  • It’s nice to have another healthy option in the area. The Frida Kale is delicious.
