Adams Morgan Hardware Coming to the Ontario 17 this Fall

Thanks to all who sent emails about the Washington Business Journal’s article yesterday:

“Owners Gina Schaefer and Marc Friedman have signed a lease for a 5,000-square-foot space at 1700 Columbia Road NW, the site of the former Ontario Theater.

Adams Morgan Hardware will join a [solidcore] Pilates studio that will open in September as well as a still undetermined restaurant.”

  • This is such fantastic news. I am eager to patronize this place.

  • I’m excited about this! It should be a great addition to that section of Adams Morgan.

It would be great if they also added an awesome deli with some NY-style bagels. 😉

  • Excellent! As someone who is about to move closer to this neighborhood, I imagine that I will be spending a lot of time and money here. 🙂

  • Aaaaaaaaah! Hopefully this will not put the amazing Old School Hardware in Mount Pleasant out of business. The staff are sooooo helpful and they really squeeze a lot into that tiny spot on Mt Pleasant Street.

  • Awesome news! I live nearby and this will come in so handy. When I told my other half about this, he mentioned that there’s another locally owned hardware store on Columbia Road across from the CVS. Hopefully both can co-exist in the neighborhood.

I think that one closed. Are you talking about the one that moved there from 18th Street?

      • The one I’m thinking of is in the strip on Columbia opposite the CVS and 7-11. I think you might be right. I was over there a few weeks ago for a watch repair and I don’t remember seeing a hardware store.

Yep, that’s the one. It wasn’t that great. Pretty sparse so it wouldn’t surprise me if the owner finally closed up shop.

  • This is certainly better news than yesterday’s announcement of yet another cell phone outlet coming to this part of Columbia.

  • I live down the street and am so excited about this! There is another hardware store nearby on Columbia Rd, but it is terrible. I always make the haul to the Woodley Park Ace Hardware or Logan Hardware for my hardware store needs.

MtPleasanter, I didn’t even know about Old School Hardware! I will have to check it out before this new place opens.

    • The hardware store on Columbia closed months ago, and yes, it was terrible. I am excited as well to not have to leave the neighborhood for hardware needs.
