  • Classic kingman park.

    • I’m sorry to hear about this young woman’s injuries and hope she will be okay. Stray bullets and random attacks are far too common this summer across most of the district. Maybe, instead of writing off this type of activity as “classic” people can work with police to change things across the district, including the Carver Langston neighborhood where this park/shooting took place, and the neighboring Kingman Park that has their own issues to sort out. Everyone should attend ANC or neighborhood meetings to stay informed and be the change we want to see in our community!

  • Wait, so did MPD send out the name and address of a shooting victim?!

    • Ann,
Yes. I called the 5th District as soon as I saw that email yesterday and it sounds like MPD did send out an email to a public listserv containing both the victim’s full name and home address (including apartment number!). The officer I spoke to said he would ask the group administrator to delete the email, which it looks like has been done. But that email went out to a lot of people (it was also forwarded to another group, but hopefully, will be deleted soon). I find it appalling that this happened. Mistakes will happen, but jeeze. I would be livid if I were the victim, or if the victim were a friend or family member.

The Pentacle. Big surprise. How long before that gets redeveloped? It really seems like the line these days is at 15th NE up that far north. With that big new condo building on MD Ave, it can’t be long before the Pentacle gets knocked down.

    • I heard about 5 years when whatever contract they (Horning Brothers) have to provide low-income housing services runs out. That would include the Azeeze Bates section just to the south. I was told that they’re already fishing around about redeveloping the whole complex. Can’t happen soon enough in my opinion. The whole place has been like Dodge City for the 5 years I’ve lived next door.

That takes some guts to live next to that joint. When that and Hechinger Mall goes, that area will be prime time.

  • I’ve lived one block from the Pentacle Apartments for the last 7 years, and the day they get torn down will be a VERY happy day for me and all the other homeowners in this area. In the time I’ve been here, I’ve called 911 about gunshots coming from that direction more times than I can count, to the point where I’m just kind of “whatever” about it at this point. When the shooting happened Friday night/Saturday morning, the shots woke me up from a dead sleep, but I literally said to myself, “Just the Pentacle Apartments again” and rolled over and went back to sleep. I feel terrible admitting that I’ve become that used to it, but it’s the truth.
