  • I never see an AMBER Alert when a black youth goes missing in DC.

    • With missing pet posts I often see “get home safely” comments. This was posted several hours ago and only one other comment.

I’m hoping Nia is found safe and sound and gets home to her family soon.

    • Really? I remember getting at least one for Rilya Wilson. Otherwise, how many Amber Alerts do you usually get that you could make that generalization? It’s entirely possible that law enforcement is less willing to declare a black child abducted and will look for other possibilities (that’s totally conjecture though), but if a case meets the criteria of an Amber Alert, I’m pretty sure they get issued.

I hope she is found safe and sounds SOON.

  • This is heartbreaking…what a sweet looking girl. I hope she’s found quickly and gets back home soon.

  • Fortunately, she has been located.

As for an AMBER alert, these are issued according to a set of national standards agreed to by the police and media. First and foremost, police must have information that the child was abducted. If police don’t abide by the standards, media won’t issue them, and the public won’t pay as much attention. You can find more information at http://www.amberalert.gov/guidelines.htm.

  • They found her

  • Thank goodness! Such a horrifyingly scary situation.

  • So glad to find out she was found!
