  • PoP, can I suggest being more consistent in how you describe the location of events in the area in your post titles? Two other violent crimes this weekend were posted as occurring in the “1600 block of E St. NE,” and the “700 block of Lamont St. NW,” not “Hill East” or “Columbia Heights.” Associating the entire neighborhood of Trinidad with a particular violent event–most of which are isolated in the north end, or the far east near Bladensburg–but not doing so when the same events occur in other neighborhoods reinforces a stigma that Trinidad residents are trying to combat. I’m not saying there isn’t crime here or that PoP shouldn’t call a spade a spade. I’m simply saying that PoP could be more conscious of the effect that something as simple as a geographic identifier can have on the perception of a community, and that related policies be equally enforced.
