I have to disagree. It really bothers me when people leave their dogs tied up outside shops, and this encourages the practice.

      But it’s so cute!

+1 I’m always afraid someone will hurt or steal the dog (Molly!).

    • I hate to agree with this, but I do. I think this is a case of good intentions actually encouraging a bad practice. As people have mentioned, the heat is still terrible or someone could take your dog. It sounds crazy, but I think there was a post about someone stealing a dog on here not too long ago.

      • Yes, there’s heat. But there’s an umbrella for shade and a water bowl. If the dog’s already outside on a walk, I’m sure the dog will enjoy resting in some shade and a drink. Also, it’s a good 15 feet from the entrance so probably not in anyone’s way.
        And regarding dog thefts…buy a U-lock? 😛

  • kudos to TJs – while I did some quick shopping inside the other day, my husband stood under the umbrella with our dog to beat the heat. She appreciated the shade and water!

pretty sure is illegal to leave your dog unattended in a public space.

  • yeah, yeah “no one should do it!” finger wag finger wag but people will leave dogs outside of stores whether there is shade and water or not, so good on TJ’s.

  • It doesn’t always have to be negative people!! It’s awesome they are providing water and a shaded place for a dog to take a break. Think about if you were walking barefoot on black pavement! Tying a dog up outside is always discouraged but I really appreciate (and patronize) businesses that put out water for my pups

I think it is nice for a business to put water out for dogs passing by, but this is clearly designed to be a hitching post for people to leave their dogs outside in the heat while they shop. That I have a problem with.

  • I would never leave my dog outside, but I do wish sometimes that stores would have a “dog valet”. Maybe TJ’s could post a staffer out there during prime walk times to mind the dogs while folk’s shopped? 🙂
