Garden Haul Entry No. 2 – Blueberries

“my recent blueberry harvest (this is my 2nd picking of the season) gathered from 3 blueberry bushes I have in pots in my backyard in Petworth. Miraculously the birds have left them alone for me to enjoy.”

Ed. Note: When your gardens start to get full of tomatoes, cucumbers, whatever you’re growing – send an email to [email protected] with Garden Haul in the title and please include the neighborhood where you grew it.

  • Whee! That’s great!

  • You grew those in pots?! That’s amazing. How big are the pots? I may try that next year.

    • Yes, they are in their 3rd year – 2 of them are in 30″ diam pots and 1 is a smaller bush in a 24″ diam pot. Having 3 different varieties helps with cross-pollination; the bees happily jumped from one to the other all spring. Also I was surprised they came back so strong this year, having left them outside (ganged up together) during such a rough winter!

  • wow I never thought about trying to do blueberries in a container – will definitely try these in our new house!

  • I’m so jealous! We’ve tried blueberries twice and the bushes have died both times–eaten up by bugs or something. I wonder if pots would work better than in the ground? At least our raspberries are going like gangbusters.

  • So glad it’s garden haul season again! This is one of my favorite features. Also, I FINALLY have space for a garden, so can’t wait to share pictures!
