  • There was a rental listing for this place on craigslist about a year ago and the interior is even more impressive.

Sister house to Ari Shapiro and partner… 🙂

    I would gladly live there.

  • I live right around the corner and that house (as are many on the same street) is gorgeous. The only downside is that the bit of yard you see to the left is part of a truly massive lot of land – not related to the owners of the pictured house/carriage house – that the owners don’t seem to have any interest in developing. It’s a shame too because the house itself is magnificent. Every time I walk by I bite my thumb at them. Pretty sure the owners may have recently purchased in the last year or two, so maybe they are still dealing with house issues before moving on the their massive yard space.

  • If any y’all are interested, here’s some more info from P.O.P. a few years back.

  • Imagine what a little landscaping could do…

  • I’m pretty sure the owners are working on a large landscaping project. It’s a huge space. I live in the neighborhood and I heard they were planning a really nice reno for it. It’ll be awesome when they get it done.

  • Yeah, the carriage house is great, but they appear to have stalled on renovation of the main house at about 95% complete. The yard has become a messy disaster, with high weeds, construction debris and planters with dead shrubs. I’ve been curious as to what happened; it seems that nothing has been done to it in a year or more. Oh well, at least the house looks better than it used to and they got rid of the chain link fence.

    • you clearly haven’t lived in the neighborhood long enough to know have an accurate sense of what “messy disaster” means when referring to that lot.

Ari Shapiro was reassigned to London in the past year and I’d guess that has something to do with the slowdown in renovation. If you had seen that house many years ago, you’d know what a massive improvement they’ve already accomplished. There’s landscaping along the 3rd St edge of the house (opposite side as the yard pictured above) so the rest is likely coming some time.

      • Oh I’m well aware; the renovated house is certainly a big improvement over the abandoned halfway house. I was just curious why all work appeared to have stopped for well over a year, and why they left the yard/landscaping in such an unfinished, disheveled state, with no apparent attempt at cleanup or even basic upkeep like mowing out back.

  • Weeds that tall are illegal. Neighbors could call it in to 311 or DDOT.

  • Haha! I live in this house! Honored to be the Carriage House of the Day!
