  • My Ward 6 Councilmember Charles Allen will be holding a public meeting to address the Shaw community’s concerns and recommendations about solving these ongoing problems. Contact his office for more information: (202)-724-8072.

    • Looks like June 1, 6:30pm meting at Gibson Plaza.

      • What about the rest of Ward 6? Violence has really ticked up here and I’m tired of neighbors writing it off due to the warm weather. Things won’t improve until we force the city to improve them.

        • I don’t like the terms uptick, ticked up, upward ticking, or anything of the like. A discussion will not be held unless we can choose an agreeable term to describe the increase in violence.

        • we got a harumph out of this guy!

I totally agree with you. My suspicion is that the only solution will be more vigilant 3rd District Police Officers on foot beats and in their cars. Sounds like this all erupted from a party- the only outcome of that Ward meeting will be “We need more cops.”

        • Go to the meeting and ask him? He represents the whole ward.

  • This is the fourth shooting in as many weeks in the same place and one a block away. I can see the block from my place right now and once again, they are drinking in the middle of the street, puffing on what look like crack pipes, stopping traffic, tons of people screaming at each other and small children running around everywhere doing the same. The police are there with dim floodlights on a single van yet I just watched a police car go through and five times had to stop as groups of people crossed in front of his car on a well, vehicularly trafficked street. Why did he not cite them for walking in traffic, drinking in traffic, etc.? The people there have no respect at all for the law, common sense or anyone other than themselves yet the city puts up with it. They should arrest everyone on that block for every little infraction and stop allowing the constant block party, crime and shootings to continue. It’s sick. Where is the Mayor on this? Silent.

    • I’m guessing the Mayor doesn’t care. As long as they vote for her then she will let them do whatever they want right? That must be the case. They shoot and murder each other endangering everyone living nearby but nothing real actually occurs to reduce the violence. That’s what I hear is the Mayors plan anyway. Give away housing to those in poverty in concentrated areas so she has a great voting block regardless of the statistical fact that clustering of poverty leads to a markedly increased rate of crime and a reduction of the upward mobility of the people that end up there.

  • What were the outcomes of the June 1 meeting? Were there any actions noted that DC Government (council, mayor’s office, MPD, etc) will be taking to curtail the weekly violence & shooting as well as the rapid proliferation of gang graffiti?
