  • Now i’ll have to bring my pepper spray if I use Uber…great 🙁

  • If this was an Uber she requested, shouldn’t they have all the driver’s information and potentially be able to GPS track him?

    • My guess is that she didn’t request an Uber, and he pulled alongside and asked if she wanted a ride and he seemed trustworthy because he was (or seemed to be) an Uber driver. I once got into an Uber I didn’t request under pretty similar circumstances (slow time of night for Uber drivers) but fortunately that was a legitimate driver.

  • No sirens followed, but there were about 5 gunshots at 3AM Saturday morning in Petworth. It sounded like the guys who deal on/around 4th and Taylor. A couple cop cars rolled around afterwards searching, but as far as I can tell nothing came of it.

    • hear those gun shots too…I guess (thankfully) no one was hit, if there were no sirens.

An ANC Rep said it happened at New Hampshire and Taylor but I didn’t see any MPD reports on it.

      • There was an email from the police on the list serv at some point on Saturday. It occurred at NH and Taylor.

Can you email it to me if you still have it? [email protected] thanks

          • Looks like I deleted it, but I’m sure someone else still has it. If I recall correctly it was a robbery and the victim was not shot, and the victim told police the perpetrators were several hispanic males.

          A reader emails it:

“We’re at Taylor and Illinois and I heard a couple shots that seemed closer to NH but then it got really close and heard one that seemed to be practically in front of our house. The shotspotter must have heard it too because a policewoman was looking for shells at the intersection of Illinois and Taylor not a minute later. I didn’t realize there was a robbery – it seemed to me that they were having a good time and laughing – while shooting. Only saw one of them running east on Taylor. ”

“This was a robbery where the suspect shot at the victim to get him to stop. Suspect1, suspect 2 and suspect 3, ran up to the victim and proceeded to assault him. Taken from the victim was his property, he was not shot. The suspects are described only as Hispanic males 16 years of age. “

  • The relentless stream of incidents like this is why I sadly and grudgingly started visiting open houses in Arlington on Sunday…

    • Arlington was rated as one of the safest counties in all of VA and also the best school district in the South-East. Makes me wonder if I made a mistake buying in DC

      • we had a guy break into our apartment in arlington while we were sleeping. My wife awoke to him standing in the doorway of our bedroom. I had to chase him out of the apartment half awake and then call the cops. Also had a peeping Tom a year later at the same complex that I had to call the cops on as well. All kinds of crime happens in Arlington too, although you might not hear as much about it….

        • Know someone who got broken into and assaulted recently here too. Maybe there is a false sense of security…

        • Of course there is crime in Arlington, but it’s night and day relative to DC. Arlington had a single homicide last year, and that case was domestic (murder/suicide). Think about that. One single homicide, and it wasn’t related to any sort of ongoing criminal behavior.

Now, DC is 3x bigger. So you’d have to multiply Arlington’s effective homicide rate of zero by 3 to come up with the expected rate of homicides in Arlington if it was as big as DC, yielding an expected rate of, well, still zero homicides.

    • There is a large swath of DC west of the park where crime levels are similar to Arlington. Prices are probably somewhat comparable to the close-in parts of Arlington too. Just pointing out that you have options beyond a transitional neighborhood in the city and the burbs.

    • I live in Arlington now and I do enjoy it, but I can’t imagine ever buying here. It’s just so, SO expensive for a single family home. I don’t mind paying to rent from private landlords though (not the huge apartment companies). There are definitely also areas of Arlington that are not so nice but they don’t seem to have the same kinds of violent crime issues. There’s still crime, but it seems like there’s much less violent crime.
