Really dislike these modern homes in the middle of classic brick row house neighborhoods. Look so out of place. Maybe better by AU or Tenleytown. They have some modern homes over there. Got a few on Capitol Hill. Not. A. Fan.

    • Disagree. Variety is the spice of life, no?

It’s somewhat hard for me to judge that without seeing what was there before. If it was a dilapidated old brick house in poor condition I wouldn’t want to have to rebuild that to code if I were a new owner.

    • I generally agree, but in this case, it replaces something (one of two, the other remains) that was already a sore thumb in the row. It’s an improvement because it’s new. But it’ll be just as ugly and dated as its neighbor in about 15 years. On the upside, I saw its construction, and there’s a good chance it won’t last that long!

    • I couldn’t agree more! When will these modernists realize that these brick psudo-colonials and federalist boxes are so out of place with the true fabric of the original shanties, caves, and tents! I remember when this property had a nice log cabin in it, we must stand up to these housing progressives! I’d like to see a few wattle and daub long houses come back, but I’m not sure how the purists would feel.

Very cool, I like it too.

  • I don’t mind the fact that it’s modern and stands out from its neighbors, but the left side looks rather poorly proportioned as is. The builders should have continued the dark grey trim along the top of the facade to frame the left-hand side. It looks pretty unfinished.

    Looks great!

  • Looks great! DC doesn’t have a shortage of Colonial or Georgian architecture. – nice to see something completely different thrown in the mix.

  • Gorgeous! Thank god for relief from so-called “classic brick” rowhouses with their out-of-proportion Doric columns, dentils and vinyl-siding. Thanks for the beautiful photographs.

  • Looks great. A nice addition to a rapidly improving street.
I bet the owners of the house next door are kicking themselves that they didn’t sell. Give them time I suppose.
(Isn’t that the house that was featured in a PoP post about a pit bull 2-3 years ago?)

  • I want to hate this, but I can’t. What’s happening to me?

  • Is this a SFH or apartments? What did it sell for?
    I like the place!

  • Does anybody know what type of tree that is?
