    Nice work MPD

  • As an early morning runner who lives in this area, I was really disturbed by this story. So glad they caught the guy and prayers to the victim and her family.

  • Per the court records, this guy was convicted of armed robbery in August 2010, served 18 months, then had 3 years of supervised release. Hopefully his recidivism will be factored into giving him a very, very long sentence this time around.

  • The judges/juries of the DC Superior Court will be sure to throw the book at him- suspended sentence, tiny payment to victims’ compensation fund, perhaps even a literal slap on the wrist. I’m sure what he really needs is another round of anger management counseling.

    • Because if there’s one thing wrong with the American criminal justice system, it’s that it doesn’t dish out enough jail time and gen

This is one of those cases where I’m glad that this guy will go through our terrible jails and be locked up for a while.

Like what was this guy doing up in CoHi at 6:30 in the morning? Lock this guy up for a long time..

    • “Like what was this guy doing up in CoHi at 6:30 in the morning?” Looking for someone to kidnap, rape, and rob, apparently.

      • He knows the Ward 1 Supervisor is soft on crime and quality of life issues, and big on public housing, Wouldn’t you come too?

        • Oh, come on. I know you’re against Brianne Nadeau, but it’s ludicrous to think that a criminal is choosing an area based on who the councilmember is. Especially since wards aren’t little fiefdoms with their own ward-specific judicial systems and police.

          • Agree with textdoc. I would be surprised if criminals are even *aware* of who the councilmembers are because a lot of average people that sort of pay attention to that stuff aren’t even aware (like myself, until just now).
Now saying he was there becasue he knows that park would be an easy place to grab someone without anyone around to interfere would be a much better argument.

  • Terrible that this happened. Glad mpd closed it quickly.

  • So glad they caught this guy! I live right there and was very unsettled by this story. Hope the woman has a quick recovery.

  • Nice work MPD

  • This post makes it sound like it’s not safe for a woman to walk in Columbia Heights at 7am.

    • I’d argue it’s not. I have to be at work at 7 a.m. every day and have always hoped that it was just way too early in the morning for people to be out looking for women to rape. But it’s not, and that’s why I keep my head on a swivel and keep to the main streets. But that’s probably not even enough.

  • super relieved to hear about this as well. good job!
