  • I love all the built-in bookshelves.

  • I can’t tell – is that rectangular pool one of those endless lap pools? If it is then I’ll take it.

  • I’d be happy to live -just- in the kitchen of this place. It’s magnificent!

  • Am I correct that those are crappy white plastic kitchen cabinets in house for sale for nearly $4 million (not to mention taxes)? Though I suppose if I had $4 million to spare, ripping them out and replacing them with cherry or maple solid wood would be a spit in the ocean.

  • Wow. This is actually lovely. So many of the house porn listings are really ostentatious, but this is tasteful, if absurdly huge, and the grounds are lovely. If I had 4 million to spend on a house, I’d absolutely buy it!

  • I’m astounded by the difference between the front of the house and the back. Amazing. I love it.

  • Aglets

God damn it must be AWESOME to be rich. Why did i have to go into the arts.

Oh, cause i’m dumb. that’s why.

  • Shouldn’t the servants quarters be more clearly defined?? lol

  • Looooove it. I like how bright the dining room is with the large windows and skylight. And the grounds, and the decorating scheme and….

  • I Dont Get It

    The grounds and landscaping….WOW!!!!

  • I want it.

  • epric002

i can see why they chose the back of the house as the promo photo. the rest of it was just really sort of boring, imo.

  • I love all the windows in the kitchen – especially the roof pieces. So much light!

  • palisades

Max Scherzer should buy this, then I can ride a bike and go hang out with him.

  • honestly, i’m super tired of seeing GDoN’s that feature super-expensive homes. if we want to oo and ahh and look at house pron, let’s do it under that title, and not ‘is this a good deal or not” because no, none of them are ‘deals’ and most of us can’t afford them anyway.

    • The GDON post every Wednesday is the house porn post. It’s just once a week.

    • Wednesday’s GDoN is usually a “house porn” edition — it’s actually tagged that way (at the end of the text).
I agree that it would be helpful to make the “house porn” part more obvious/visible.

      • justinbc

I’m assuming it was purposely changed to not add certain words to our office browser caches. I don’t see any reason to change it back because people can’t remember that it’s Wednesday. Maybe put a big watermark on the story photo that says “H.P.”?

        • I feel kinda bad for newbies, though. I mean, what if you just found out about PoPville yesterday?
Maybe “house porn” could be renamed “Out of Reach” or “In Our Wildest Dreams” or something?

          • justinbc

The heading “good deal or not” still applies. And it’s still tagged with the old moniker. I don’t feel bad for people who only read part of something before commenting (although I do realize that’s a huge subset of this reader base).

          • Justin — But the heading is no longer “Good Deal or Not?” — just the acronym “GDoN?”.

          • Prince Of Petworth

Look this is not rocket science. It’s just fun to see what houses/condos are for sale. That’s it. Nobody’s doing their PHd on the actual value. It’s just for fun. Just like Animal Fix. Some people don’t looking at animals that’s cool. If people don’t like looking at fancy houses every Wed. that’s fine too. At this point I will never ever be able to please everyone so I’m just gonna keep doing what I do. 🙂

          • justinbc

Oh, I didn’t notice that. Oh well, there’s Google. This is acronym city after all. You people are always saying things I have to look up 🙂

          • “At this point I will never ever be able to please everyone so I’m just gonna keep doing what I do.” Yes, please!

        • Prince Of Petworth

hahaha you guys crack me up.

Everybody has a different threshold. I’m tired of seeing flipped row-houses for north of $800K featured on GDoN. Something that somebody else bought for $350K a couple months ago and put $50K of work into is almost by definition not a “good deal” at $800K, but we’ve become so accustomed to seeing that stuff that nobody even blinks any more. I’d actually argue that while it’s way too many dollars in an absolute sense, this house is a way better deal than at least half of the houses featured on GDoN.

      • HaileUnlikely

p.s. PoP – my point is “different strokes,” not to criticize your selection of what to post.

      • Prince Of Petworth

Well it’s no longer called Good Deal or Not? But seriously if you ever have a rec don’t hesitate to let me know.

        • SouthwestDC

I think it would be fun to feature a low-priced home (like under $300k) once a week. That could run the gamut from comically bad fixer uppers, to decent houses east of the river, to teeny-tiny studios in Adams Morgan.

          • Prince Of Petworth

It’s hard to find ones that aren’t studio condos/coops but I’ll keep looking.

          • HaileUnlikely

I’d love this! I’d love to send in the real estate listing for the comically bad fixer-upper that I bought, but then everybody would instantly know who I am and where I live…

          • SouthwestDC

Almost all the houses were in that price range when we were looking in Anacostia/Congress Heights last summer.

          • justinbc

The problem is the largest majority of people reading would have no idea what the value of something like that really is… (not to say that we’re all experts on $3-10M properties either). Often times those dumpy listings only feature 1 or 2 photos as well.

          • HaileUnlikely

Fair point, though for many, stuff in this range can simultaneously be a non-stellar deal and a unique opportunity. Ever see the OnionTV mock press conference where Ford unveiled their concept car of the future: the ’93 Taurus? When I see houses like this one, or for that matter, the one I bought (which is similar in lots of ways), I think of the “customer” they “interviewed” who said, “Well basically I just needed a car, and the 93 Taurus is one.”

  • The floors are beautiful and I like that it’s neither overly trendy nor dated. You can go with so many decorating styles here that will work well which is not always the case with the luxury homes in DC.

  • not one picture of a bathroom?

  • Good condo alternative. I’ll take it!
