Looking for recommendations for restaurants that cater:

“I’m hosting a party for about 75 people and I would rather not use a caterer as that can get incredibly expensive. I was thinking instead to get catering from a restaurant and hire one or two waiters to serve. The only recommendation I’ve gotten from friends is Lebanese Taverna. Does anyone else have recommendations for restaurants in the area that cater?”

My friend used Tiffin (Indian restaurant) for her wedding of about 100 people. It was buffet style and delicious!

  • Cafe Ole on Wisconsin has pretty reasonably priced catering.

For my mom’s (yia yia) birthday we used Zatinya. When we gave our budget, they squeezed it a little to be able to include their fantastic crab cakes. We also got stuffed grape leaves from Café Ole. I would have served them differently – I put out the crab cakes and one neighbor parked himself in front and downed them – next time I would stagger the presentations.

      • u should have picked up the platter, smiled at him, n say innocently that u were going to circulate a few hors d’oeuvres around the room (for all to enjoy)….

Maggiano’s is crowd-pleasing and reasonably priced.

    • I second this–they do a nice job and bring everything you need for set up at a reasonable price. Used it for a work party hosted at my home.

  • DGS Deli,
    Bub and Pops
Carmines Hill Country BBQ or any of the other bbq places around town
    Wiseguy NY Pizza
    Rosa Mexicano
    Woodward Table
Any of the office lunch standards like Corner Bakery, Firehook, Potbelly, Pret, Pual Bakery
    Your favorite food truck

  • Smoke & Barrel in Adams Morgan caters events this size and can probably hook you up with a couple bartenders or servers to work too.

  • Most Mexican restaurants can throw together a fajita bar no problem – we did this for formal parties in college all the time. I know Guapo’s and Uncle Julio’s both have catering options.

  • If you like greek food, we used The Greek Spot on 11th by U st. NW to cater a party and it was delicious.

  • BBQ is always an easy one–I used both Rocklands and Red, hot and blue…and they deliver.

  • We used Rockland’s for our backyard DC wedding. They were great and everyone loved it.

  • I second the Indian suggestion and nominate Salt and Pepper Grill!

  • I highly recommend you check out MGM Roast Beef for their catering menu. Ask for Jake or Ryan.

  • Have you actually priced caterers? Most offer a simple “drop off” service of food on disposable platters etc. I used Occaison’s for a graduation party – and it was a feast at around $8.00/head. (This was 5-6 years ago.) Then hire your own waiters.

  • Cava! We use them for small-scale work catering events and they’re great.

  • If you need waiters, etc. use Party Hands. They are a local company that will do anything for you… staff with people, get you tables, even pick up the food. We have used them about 8 times and they are always amazing.

    The owner is amazing!

Also – we catered a party recently from District Taco. They were amazing. Then we used Party Hands to pick it up and serve.
