  • Either I’m paying too little for rent, or this is not a very good deal. For that much money, you could get a 1br in a new building closer to metro. The living/kitchen space looks so cramped, though the upstairs part looks nice.

    • Exactly
i live 1-2 blocks from here (closer to union) and think this price is on the higher side of things

    • +1. $2,200 seems like a lot for this unit.
The listing also needs to make up its mind about whether the unit is furnished — it says “unfurnished” at the beginning, and “furnished” at the end.
And whenever I read something like “Walk to 2 Metro stations” I think: “Not close to either of them.”

  • I lived on a lower floor of this building and did not have a great experience with the landlord. He would replace broken appliances with used ones that would then break again and always used the same contractors who did shoddy work. On three occasions, due to shoddy work by contractors, there was flooding in the apartment and he refused to hire professionals to clean the carpet afterwards. When we hired our own carpet cleaners to get rid of the rank mold smell, the landlord fought us when we wanted to deduct the cost from our rent.
Oh, there’s also a built in automatic 5% per year hike in the rent.
All in all: Renting here is not worth the money.

    • Sounds like it isn’t a great deal for the landlord alone. But I’ve found that most of my DC rentals have had the 5% auto increase – is this not common?

  • Bad deal! I live on 8th SE, two blocks from Metro and pay 1700 for a 1000 sq ft upper level unit. You can definitely do better on the Hill!
