From AlertDC:

“The Office of Personnel Management reports that Federal Agencies in the Washington, DC area are open under a 2 hour delayed arrival and employees have the option for unscheduled leave or unscheduled telework. Employees should plan to arrive for work no more than 2 hours later than they would be expected to arrive.”

“In light of of the 1-3 inches of snow forecasted to fall just before and during A.M. rush hour, the District of Columbia Public Schools will open with a 2-hour delay on Thursday, Feb 26th.”

“The District of Columbia Government will be opening on time today Thursday February 26, 2015″

  • I hate OPM sometimes. A delay is not very helpful if my bus is detouring around my neighborhood and I have to walk a mile in the snow to the nearest bus stop (both ways, uphill, of course 🙂

  • A two-hour delay as snow continues to fall seems like a weird choice to me. If the snow had ended and was melting, it would make more sense. Of course, I also may be simply justifying the fact that I wimped out and took unscheduled leave. 🙂

  • Well, I guess my garbage isn’t getting picked up again. 3 weeks in a row now.

  • Every other school district in the area has the day off.

  • I’ll consider myself lucky on this but I made it to work in record time leaving at 7:30 am (per usual) this morning – encountered unplowed alleyway, unplowed streets, had to go a little slower than usual. I know many have much worse circumstances (the bus thing sounds like a big pain, DC_Chica!) but overall I agree with a 2-hour delay instead of complete closure. If those who are still able to get on the road safely at normal times do it, then pile-up wouldn’t be so bad around 10:00 am. Stay safe/warm/dry, everyone!

My school – a charter school in DC – was originally following DCPS (which we usually do), but at 8:15 they called a snow day. Hooray!

There also seems to be a lot of confusion about WMATA today. I got alerts from Metrobus saying that DCPS was closed and that the bus I usually take was cancelled (it’s one of those routes that only operates before and after school gets out). I think they’ve sent out corrections, but I’m sure the delays are still abundant. Stay safe!

  • Good ol’ DC government. I feel bad for DC government employees that have children in DCPS. Not delaying both city govt and schools doesn’t make sense.

    • I feel bad for them too. Muriel has repeatedly screwed city employees like this. Who is she trying to impress? Anyone with kids knows what a hassle it is, and can see in the headlines that fellow parents who work for the city are getting the shaft every snow day. I have yet to see a good decision from this administration, even on the smallest level.

      • Not trying to defend Mayor Bowser here, but I really don’t think she planned things to happen this way.
I am sure she is getting lots of heat for it anyway.

It does stink if you are a city employee with kids in DCPS but I am sure the decision on open/close/delayed for each are totally separate…would be nice if they could better coordinate….someday.

    • Its like when the number of hotdogs sold in a pack doesn’t match the number of buns in a pack. Maybe there is free two hour babysitting at Bowser’s office?
