Wow! The Nats are insanely stacked in their pitching rotation. I sure hope they don’t trade anyone away, though (I’ve heard things about Zimmermann or Strasburg, nooo!).

  • I’d e okay with trading Stras as long as we got a big payday for him, maybe Mookie Betts from Boston. Stras just isn’t living up to the expectations.

  • So let me get this straight – they had the BEST pitching staff last year and they thought it made sense to go out and spend $200mm on another pitcher who is 30 years old – meaning the chances he’s even pitching anywhere near a $200mm contract by year 4 are stacked agt him. Yet, there is a good chance we don’t lock up a few of our best hitters? This just seems like a disaster waiting to happen.

Although, like a friend always says, “It ain’t my money!”

    • Yes because 7 year deals are structured that way because the team really thinks they will have the player start for 7 years. /sarcasm

That was part of the cost of acquiring this guy. Also, the salary cap in baseball is not the same as in other sports. Just because they broke the bank on this guy it doesnt mean they cant/wont do it on other players and pay the luxury tax.

  • Paid, WAY too much for him…

The only way I can wrap my head around this is that they are going to either trade Zimmermann for a bat or expecting him to walk next year because of the $ he will expect.

That’s a lot of cheddar for a guy who won’t be pitching here for the 7 years stated in his contract.
