Random Reader Rant and/or Revel

You can talk about whatever is on your mind – quality of life issues, a beautiful tree you spotted, scuttlebutt, or any random questions/thoughts you may have. But please no personal attacks and no need to correct people’s grammar. This is a place to vent and/or celebrate things about daily life in DC.

  • Had a nice dinner with the Popville holiday orphans group yesterday. Thanks, Pablo, for organizing 🙂

  • Rave: Had a great time at the PoPville orphans Chinese food/movie xmas
Rant: Ended up going on the date Wednesday. He was definitely more interested than I was and very pushy.
Rave: On the plus side, I had some excellent Pad See Ew.
Rave: Annoying roommate (the one who doesn’t seem to respect my personal space is moving out tomorrow)
??: Since our washer/dryer isn’t working, I’ve been hanging my clothes on a drying rack. She seems to have taken my dry clothes off of it and folded them? The rack is still empty, so it’s not like she used it. I guess it’s nice, but I don’t want anybody touching my underwear, even if it is clean!

    • Any chance she used it and took stuff down before you noticed? Otherwise, I’ll add that to the strange happenings in group houses I’ve never experienced. I’ve had roommates take my clothes from the dryer before they were done (then leave their clothes in there for 5 days), but no one has ever folded anything.

      • It’s possible but it was a pretty short period of time. I guess next time I”ll need to take the clothes off my rack (that LL/owner has had no problem with being in that space) sooner.

        • I think you need to be very clear with new roomies about your expectations. You made a point to mention it was your rack which the owner didn’t mind you keeping there, so maybe the issue is she moved your clothes to use your rack? I’d make it clear whether or not you’re ok with someone using it, and if not, it should be moved out of the common space IMO. Short of food, computers, and things like that, I always assume my roomie will use reusable items as long as they’re ok with me doing the same.

          • I don’t care about people using it – my issue is with somebody going through my underwear. Anyway, I spoke with LL and there was a different, entirely reasonable, reason why she moved it.

          • I’d say “going thru your underwear” is a bit different than folding clothes which included underwear. Hopefully, you won’t encounter these issues with the new people.

    • I totally understand not wanting people touching your stuff, but I do think you’re being a wee bit harsh on this roommate. All of the things you mentioned could have just been because she was trying to be nice, although totally clueless about personal space. Maybe in the spirit of the holidays, you could just forgive her and be thankful you won’t have to live with her much longer.

  • Rant: I was supposed to be on a flight leaving 10 minutes ago to go see my best friend who is in the states visiting her parents. Instead, I’m still down for the count with strep. When the heck are the antibiotics finally going to knock this crap out? At least I feel a little better today; the last two days were miserable.

    • Well, I have a rave. I got a Christmas surprise. My old roommate (moved out something like 3 years ago) received a delivery at my house from Washington Green Grocer (she hasn’t used WGG in years). Apparently, the company had some kinks with its new website and mis-delivered, but I get to keep the food because former roommate is out of town. So, free locally sourced fruits and veggies for me. A bright spot in a kinda cruddy Christmas week.

  • Rave: Closing day is a bit before moving day, so I can move in stages and get rid of extra heavy stuff like dishes and glasses early.
Rave: Christmas dinner of homemade fettuccine alfredo was a success and have leftovers for lunch.
Revel: 3 weeks til roomie is out!
Rave: Started a 30 day weightlifting challenge (with myself) on Christmas. I’m sore, but it sure felt good to lift.

  • Pablo Raw

Rave: Thanks for early-byrd, iindsay and textdoc for a nice evening of Chinese food (yay for duck leftovers) and movie (The Theory of Everything).
Rant: Carpenter friend who was supposed to be her today to help me with some little remodeling is sick and now I have to find another way to occupy my time.

  • LisaT

    Sick of all these shootings.

Yesterday was so incredibly boring. But I shared a giant bowl of popcorn with my dog and he is now adept at catching pieces mid-air!

  • Rave: Office is a ghost town.
Rant: Because office is a ghost town, I had time to read the comments on the rat-in-toilet thread. Totally traumatizes.

  • Weird: I’m in the burbs of CT and I just saw a car with a DC triathlon club sticker and Ward 6 RPP at the grocery store. I almost stuck around to see who it was, but I had the ingredients for lunch with me and had to get back. Any thoughts MtPResident? It was at the new Stop and Shop “downtown.”
Rant: so much insanity, noise, and miscommunication with 5 adults and 2 young kids in one house. I’m sleeping in the walk in closet tonight.

    • Oh interesting! Just checking in now, but I have no idea. How funny, though! When are you in CT until? We head back Sunday….

      Hope things calm down soon!

  • I Dont Get It

Rant: IDGI SR was sick Christmas day and couldn’t join the reindeer games.
Rave: IDGI SR and I tied in the Christmas Eve ugly Christmas sweater contest.
Rave: I caught one of little nephews cheating at Trouble! I’m so proud!
Rant: I have a great story to tell about my father’s wife bug it’s too long to write from my phone! Stay tuned!

  • Quotia Zelda

Rave: Good food at the in-laws’.
Rant: There’s only so much of it I can eat. My MIL wants to feed me at least 6 meals a day.
Rave: I thinl I’ve found the perfect Ayyam-i-ha present for my mother.
Rant: No clue for my dad. He’s so difficult.

  • I’d like to RANT about a box of Christmas presents that was stolen off my porch on Emerson Street on Monday in Petworth(or delivered wrong, then stolen), with this and the shootings it’s made for a really terrible feeling about this neighborhood. I don’t ever get to see my family for Christmas so at least getting a small box of gifts from them was always something I look forward to, so thanks a lot package thief for bringing me down on Christmas.

    • Aw. I’m so sorry to hear about the package. That’s really a bummer. Not that it makes you feel any better, but I had Christmas presents stolen off my porch in Glover Park last week. Apparently nowhere is safe 🙁 I hope you were able to connect with your family somehow still!

      • Thank you, so sorry to hear about yours too! 🙁 I guess this time of year in this world of online ordering it was bound to get worse…. uhg. But I did get to talk to them all, so yeah that helped! 🙂 It was just like a punch to the gut though, my sister asking if her package came then telling me the tracking said it was delivered on Monday…

Rant: I have nothing but rants today.
Rant: because I think I have the flu.
Rave: slept lots yesterday and plan to sleep a lot today and the rest of the weekend.
    bah! hum-bug!

    Fun Fact: It’s Wren Day!
I don’t know wtf that is, but it’s all over my twitter feed. If I had any energy I’d google it.
