34 year old DC Council candidate, AJ Cooper, Died Suddenly Wed. Morning

Thanks to all who sent emails about the sad news (also discussed in yesterday’s rant/revel) – from the Washington Post:

“The death was confirmed by his mother, Brenda Rhodes Miller, who said he died “suddenly” Wednesday morning.

Last month, Cooper announced his intention to seek the Ward 4 council seat being vacated by Muriel E. Bowser, who will become mayor Jan. 2.

Cooper had become engaged to be married last week, according to a family statement.”

  • I never met A.J. Cooper, however, I’m very sadden to hear of his sudden death. Words can’t express my sorrow for his family and girlfriend. Life is too short and the U.S. appear to be in turmoil and the no verdict in the Garner case in NYC have left me speechless. All I can say is Lord Have Mercy.

  • Sad to see this. What’s scary is that he was so young and he appeared fit, etc. I wonder if he had pre-existing heart issues. A reminder that you never know when your time could be up. Condolences to the family.

  • AJ was like family to me. I’ve known him since he was born. He was a beautiful man inside and out, completely dedicated to his city. DC lost a wonderful advocate and I lost a wonderful friend. Keep his family in your thoughts.

So sorry for your loss. Never met him but followed his career for some time and was looking forward to him running for Bowser’s open Council seat. A loss for his loved ones and the city.
