Hush Restaurant & Lounge, “Tavern specializing in intercontinental food”, coming to 3124 Georgia Ave; Ping Pong Bar Progress Nearby

3124 Georgia Ave, NW

Early last year this building was supposed to become home to Mama Put “serving Asian & African inspired food, with an atmosphere for lounging and listening to DJ music or Live Bands”. Recently a new liquor license placard was posted for Hush Restaurant & Lounge saying:

“Tavern specializing in intercontinental food with seating capacity of 250 and total occupancy of 350. Summer garden with 100 seats. Entertainment Endorsement to include cover charge and dancing.”

And just a few storefronts south that proposed tavern with ping pong tables looks to be making progress in the former Ma Ma’s Southern Cuisine space:

Looks like the bar is getting framed out:

  • “Intercontinental food?” Kind of a vast menu!

  • Looks like Mama Put is moving up to Takoma/Brightwood. From the TakomaDC Listserv:
    “Mama Put – 7331 Ga (@Geranium – Former El Tamarindo/Salmeron’s/Sunshine Restaurants)
Mama Put has not opened yet. Its application for a substantial change to the current license at that address says that it will be a “full scale restaurant serving African-inspired food, with an atmosphere for lounging and listening to DJ music or Live Bands.”
They are asking to serve alcoholic beverages to 2 am, Sunday through Thursday, and to 3 am on Friday and Saturday. They also want to have a cover charge for entertainment and to offer live entertainment on the sidewalk patio.”

  • Last week the ANC unanimously voted not to endorse there License siting problems with other places under the same ownership, the fact that a cover and the capacity made it sound more like a club than a restuarant.

    • We live right up the street. and are definitely opposed to Hush. There are already too many clubs that cause problems on GA Ave. This section of the avenue is starting to hit a stride, and something like this will definitely stall it.

  • So many red flags on this one. Lounges usually fail to deliver good food, and simultaneously fail to provide a nice bar environment. Overreach. And speaking of too much: African and Asian cuisine?? To whole continents??

  • “Hush” sounds as good as “Touché” on H street
