Whoa – Sinkhole forming at 14th and Constitution Ave, NW

From DDOT:

“The District Department of Transportation (DDOT) has closed one lane on northbound 14th Street NW between Constitution Avenue and Pennsylvania Avenue. Crews from DDOT and DC Water are currently investigating a condition that has undermined the roadway at this location.

While traffic on northbound 14th Street NW is still progressing through this area, DDOT encourages motorists to use alternate routes to avoid congestion.

Further updates regarding this closure will follow.

  • Woah – right by my office. Too bad there aren’t any bars/restaurants on that block that can take advantage of the notoriety that comes with the sinkhole (I’m thinking of Ceiba’s Sinkhole de Mayo)

  • It’s just a pothole.

    • I don’t think it is. It looks like the pavement around the hole is deforming, too. I’m only looking at this one picture, though, so could be reading too much into it.

      • They will just put a patch over that pothole and it will be done with. This is nothing special like a sinkhole that eats cars.
